  5. Most anticipated games of 2017

I've stated earlier that I enjoy story driven single player experiences like Dead Rising, Fallout 4 and Mass Effect and found that by digging deep I realized what games and genres I liked and was able to cut down on unnecessary purchases.
Just because a game is good doesn't mean it's a game for me.

Now, it's 2017 and a lot of exciting stuff is coming out. I'm still in the process of selling all kinds of games that I have no desire to play. Games I bought because a lot of people praised them and they looked cool.

I traded in some games and pre-ordered Mass Effect: Andromeda and Red Dead Redemption 2. Two games/series I enjoyed a lot when they were released on Xbox 360. I think I pre-ordered them mostly because I enjoyed the previous games because when I watch the trailers I don't really feel the hype?

Surprisingly I feel A LOT of hype for some tried and true classics that are getting a new coat of paint.

Double Dragon IV which is released by the end on January looks pretty awesome. It has the old 8-bit graphics and the music so far sounds fantastic. It looks like you can no do combos too!? I'm very excited to play this game.

Puyo Puyo Tetris has been out in Japan for PlayStation 4, and older consoles, for some time now, but it was recently announced that it's getting a western release this march. You either play pure Puyo Puyo or Tetris or a mixup of both. It has all kinds of selectable characters and online versus mode for up to 4 players. The game looks absolutely bonkers!

During the recent Nintendo Treehouse event where the new Nintendo Switch was revealed in more detail, Capcom showed that they are relesing Utlra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers. A NEW STREET FIGHTER II GAME IN 2017!! Now, at first glance it looks like a port of the HD Remix version that came out on PSN and XBLA a decade ago but details from hands on experience tell a different story.

First off, you can switch to the original sprites and backgrounds of Super Street Fighter II Turbo. The HD graphics and animations are not a straight port from the HD Remix version but has been improved upon. Also, the game engine and mechanics are NOT based on the HD Remix version, which was supervised by David Sirlin, who changed the original game to a more mixup based game. This new version is based on the original Super Street Fighter Turbo mechanics. A new feature is that you can now tech throw. A feature that wasn't originally in the game.

Another new thing to the game is the 2 new characters. Evil Ryu, which have been seen before in previous street fighter games and Violent Ken who has never appeared in a pure Street Fighter game. It was SNK who came up with his design and playstyle in SNK vs Capcom.

It's kind of frightening to me to realize that I might have, once again, changed preferences in gaming. Do I no longer enjoy Story driven single player experiences? Why am I so much more hyped about older arcade style games?

What games are you looking forward to in 2017?
