Notice:

We have retired and archived the main forum area.

This includes the General discussion forum and the Web site forum.

You can find these closed forums in the Archive section of the site. All information is still accessible and searchable. https://www.twingalaxies.com/forumdis...p/353-ARCHIVED

As the Scoreboard Errors report thread was located in the general forums, we have officially started a new one on @admin staff 's wall. You can find that thread here: https://www.twingalaxies.com/entry.php/3296 - this will be more effective communication of scoreboard issues to the admin staff.

Any other important user feedback regarding site issues can be addressed on Admin Staff's wall as well.

Regarding any long-running threads that were in these (now closed) forums that you feel should continue, we encourage you to continue that line of discussion on your wall.

We have moved away from the older general discussion forum format in favor of the newer user wall system. This move is also in part to help facilitate a more optimized mobile experience.

Forum posting will now be limited to the Submission Review, New Track Marketplace, and Score Dispute areas.

As we continue to baby step toward an evolving modern and less complicated site, your understanding of these growing pains is appreciated.

This is a good thing, it means the toxic threads that kept bubbling up will cease to be, but at least they will be preserved and archived for hysterical purposes.

So once the posts fall off the bottom of the front page wall listing, how do people know where to go to post those scoreboard errors to be fixed?

I was thinking the same thing. It would be impossible to find buried under past wall entries.

Twin Galaxies, please consider dropping a google powered search box onto the main page.

For those of us competing in the MAME Gaming League (MGL 34 ends soon), we post our scores to each of 10 separate general discussion forum threads (one for each game)...the last two games of this session are still open, and the threads are as follows:

Game 9, Crush Roller: https://www.twingalaxies.com/showthre...closes-14-Jan)

Game 10, Sinistar: https://www.twingalaxies.com/showthre...closes-21-Jan)

The tournament ends January 21st - is it possible to keep at least these two threads open until then? For future MGLs, would each game thread need to be started on Paul Hornitzky's wall @OOO, or is there a tournament section he can use?

I understand the desire to improve performance and reduce complexity, but there is value in a forum style postings. If we as a community need to discuss a particular topic (emulators, adjudication precedents, etc) where can we categorize and store this information?

Currently it seems that TG is rich with data, but poor with organization. Important discussions are scattered across the galaxies in old forum posts, adjudication threads, and now on walls.

I know this is asking a lot, and will be low on the priority list, but I believe that having a WIKI would benefit the adjudicators. Wiki's include their own discussion area for each topic, have logins, etc. Participation could be restricted to a certain credibility level to filter out noise. Instead of hunting for past precedents, they could be clearly laid out in wiki articles, easily searchable.

I am not the only person I am sure that uses google to find information within TG.

Some warning could have been nice as there are still some very active threads there. Not even a chance to redirect someone to a wall post

Agree with the change overall as long as there are monitored channels for users to voice feedback in terms of site experience and functionality

Reopened general discussion until end of day Saturday, Jan 13 2018 so that members can post redirects to their walls and etc.

Unfortunately can't keep it open until the 21st (due to app development constraints).

For future MGLs there will be several solutions:

1.) The new tournament system that TG is building may be done and available by then and it will handle all of your needs automatically. It's very extensive and allow performance uploads and everything.

2.) We will be implementing the ability for qualified members (undetermined as to what the requirement(s) will be) to be able to create a group/club profile page that will have a wall feed and etc. This would be a place that would allow you post specific tournament/group discussion and activity.

For now, people will need to use their walls as the primary point of centralized discussions.

We are working on our overall site search function so that it works across everything, games/members/posts/etc. and lays out an organized and attractive search results page. Please give us some time. It's definitely being worked on.

We will be adding the ability to subscribe to specific wall posts.

Once we get all the planned functionality up and running we will take a look at this and see if it is still needed. I understand your overall point, its just that these desires may be answered via other mechanisms that are being worked on and put in place. We will see though...

An unfortunate side effect of the recent change:

The black navigation bar, previously displayed near the top of each forum topic, has all but disappeared. The bar can still be accessed, but it requires a delicate adjustment of the page's vertical position (see below):

Visit any submission topic to see what I'm talking about.

Example:

Android - Angry Birds Seasons - Wreck the Halls - 3 Stars Big Cookie - 119,110 - Rodrigo Lopes

The status of the submission (open, accepted, rejected, or canceled) is not visible to the user unless he/she scrolls down the page (a few lines), and then scrolls back up in small vertical increments.

The other option is to navigate all the way to the end of the page (see below):

The adjudication outcome should be prominently displayed at the top of the page, not buried near the bottom.

Can you help?

so jace i've been thinking of this alot, and as discussed on other walls, walls have issues for matters of community interest. Also, wouldnt you agree the community has been shockingly responsible with not cluttering the forums? Why not reopen them with some rules that only new threads should be for thing that are of long term general interest. Maybe even make a cred limit to create a thread to stop abuse.

pi TG

It is interesting how even Facebook has announced that they will change their search index algorithm. Imagine how TG continually adapt to new search algorithms for gamers just because
they want to jump on a "bandwagon" of something new - "having a wall like post system" but will realize this is shortsighted, maybe too late. If TG making this "post wall system" to be very very difficult, for new members and even current members, to find topic of interest members will be frustrated. How will someone know about a topic if posts are buried beneath a system of millions of a linear set of messages below each other? To only refer to that the solution to "no threads" issue is to subscribe to posts will not work unless there are spesific walls with spesific topics created.

Do not throw away the baby and the bath water, there is a place for forums and walls at the same time. Rather think of a plan how give some predetermined structure of message postings can be index in something like showing like a "dictionary / key word listing wall", where users can search for topics or keywords of interest can be subscribed to by ticking from a list. Now if TG only do have a wall system, this will bury a wealth gaming information and the body of knowledge which would not be discoverable.

Note: Facebook do have massive machines executing machine learning algorithms for searches which make the "wall system" look easy but there are more to this than just a wall...maybe datagod can shed more light..he is a data expert afterall...making it at least two of us here on the forum know more than just "something" about data...does not matter if one flatten structures or making the UIs different, somewhere down the line if you want meaning attached to any information element you will have to change it back to a structure.

So think how information will be presented, used, re-used, linked, will aid in growing the body of knowledge for esport and will aid new-comers be encouraged taking part in playing and submitting scores.

This is a bug and will be fixed. It's not related to the closing of the forums.
