• Track MAMEHub for CO-OP Scores Only?

Ever wanted to play a 2-player / co-op game but you had no one to play it with?

So, I've thought about this for some time now and I wanted to throw it out there to see what other people think about it. Yes, MAMEHub is another variation of MAME but it's also different as it's a network version. I imagine any scores would strictly be simultaneous doubles / 2-players / co-op ONLY. So no reason to even think about a donkey kong or Pac-Man 2 player game as those games take turns. It would just be nice to have 2 of the greatest players team up to play a game such as Mario Bros., Bubble Bobble, Joust, Wizard of Wor, Gauntlet (3 or 4 players?) or Contra as one person may live in South Carolina and the other person may live in California and would other wise never meet in person to set a score besides be able to practice co-op play ahead of time.

I say MAMEHub stays in it's own category and is never combined or added to the current MAME scores. It's another way to help gamer's out by giving them the opportunity to submit a score in co-op fashion.

How did I come up with this idea? Simply from myself and Steven Kleisath practicing for the Orlando, Free Play Florida event this November 2014 as we will be shooting for 2 world records on Mario Bros. for regular play and NO POW doubles. If you take his high score and my high score on this game you would end up with a combine score of over 8 million. However, if we had no way to practice before this event then I can guarantee you we may not even get one of these two scores. Being able to use a network version of MAME has been the real key. It's been a frustrating journey at times as MAMEHub is not always perfect but it does work. Maybe some games run better than others as well but I'm not sure. It's still been extremely helpful to practice on and we have even broken both records ahead of time on MAMEHub.

I'm also very open to any network MAME that may run better as I've only tried MAMEHub but I do like it.

    Love, hate, thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks Barthax! These are some good links and good information if anyone wants to read about MAMEhub or even try it out.

Sounds like a great idea. Too often a top player cannot find another of comparable caliber with which to cooperatively play a multi-player title. I have to imagine that a duo ("Joust", "Mario Brothers", "Rip Off", "Wizard of Wor"), trio ("Ghostbusters", "Rampage", "Super Sprint") or quartet (as in the arcade title "Quartet", or "Asteroids" for the Atari 800 which I engaged in 4-player action on once many years back) of players could develop special strategies that could take gameplay to unheard of levels that were unreachable during single-play...especially in a title like "Wizard of Wor".

Installing for Mac now. It would be nice to have a open platform (Win,Mac, Linux), so anyone can compete on MAME.

This is exactly what I'm thinking as well. I imaging we would get to witness some of the best co-op play in the world. Imagine some of the streaming events TG could have with team competitions.

For some people I'm sure the install would not be an issue and for others the Port Forwarding may be a issue. However, if this ever were to be added for tracking co-op games then there are videos and instructions that will help out people.

I just recently gave Kaillera a shot as well. It seems that both of the major netplay systems have issues here and there but your also talking about software that has been written to enable these 35 yr. old games to be used for netplay. I do like Kaillera as well as MAMEHub and if scores were ever tracked for co-op play then it really wouldn't matter if they were combined even though they are not the same. It's still using a real MAME and not their own software. It's just a thought! :-)

The issues they have would be something like input lag once in a while or a tad bit of slow down which then speeds up again and mostly due to someone's internet speed or maybe the server being used. However, if a team really wants to get a world record then they will deal with it as well as they can.
