• What arcade game would you want to see in a tournament

Tournaments like the Kong Off are a fantastic way to make new friends and have a great time. I would love to see more "game-offs".

What about you? What arcade game ** or any other type of game ** would you want to see a whole tournament dedicated to? Would you be willing to travel and play in the tournament?

Here is a list of games I think would be great in a tournament:

    Tron - TronOff
    Robotron - RobotronOff
    Zookeeper - ZookOff
    Shmups - ShmupOff

Well, for starters (no offense) the "(game title)off" mantra has a been there/done that feel. For sake of freshness more than anything else, another name needs to be adopted, or at least one unique to each title.

The world's largest such event took place more than 30 years ago now featuring "Track and Field", the event where a million players competed and when it was all said and done, Phil Britt was the definitive winner. Maybe it's time for another go at it. The title plays pretty fast and allows a wide variety of competition.

AND, with the potential for so many "mini challenges" such as each event separate, and even a knockout-style event with an ever-increasing qualification such as the long jump, there are plenty of opportunities for competition on this title.

I'd also enjoy seeing an event where quite literally every competitor has a chance...pick ten (10) titles (such as my selection below) and the score at the end of the 1st stage or level is all that matters BUT you must finish that stage or level without dying. Competition would be ultra tight under the circumstances, and a limited number of tried would be allowed per player/title, perhaps three (3) to keep things lively, making every performance count. My ten possible titles would be those that naturally allow for point-pressing opportunities, possibly a maxed out score that is not difficult to obtain, and few leeching opportunities...

Donkey Kong - highest score at the end of stage 1-1
Paperboy - lawnmower trick disallowed, highest score after completing Monday's bonus round (Hard Path)
Galaxian - a max score at the end of wave 1 is possible but not easy to pull off
Carnival - highest score at end of completing stage 1 before bonus round begins
Pooyan - highest score at end of stage 1
Pandora's Palace - highest score at end of stage 1
Green Beret (Rush'n Attack) - highest score at end of stage 1
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom - highest score at end of 1st children rescue scene (Hard Path)
Smash TV - highest score at end of starting room (NOT as easy as it seems !!)
Up'n Down - highest score at end of stage 1

It's just a thought, but with so many players experiencing stage 1 in practice repeatedly, yet not so many of us reaching stages 10, 50, 100 or more, the competition would likely be incredibly tough. And with a very limited number of chances per title, that leaves little room to ***** around. And that was the constraints that I faced in the 1980 "Space Invaders" Atari 2600 challenge in NYC...just two chances due to the number of participants that showed up.

Ok, maybe the question should be this: Does a single game tournament interest you?

I would be interested in seeing the community push each other to new heights, to totally crush a score of another game, like the KO guys and gals are doing with Donkey Kong.

And the name ---Off was sort of tongue in cheek.

Lets come up with some better names. Here are mine:

      2014 Zookeeper Invitational
ROBOCALYPSE 2014: The Greatest Roboton Tournament in the Universe

Personally I'd like to see a "Knock Out" format event on "Death Race". It's quick, it's competitive and a lot of fun !!

A tournament format where the players individually pick their games to target the record on. The % against the existing record is the player's score but the player isn't limited to their own choice in game (i.e., could play the game proposed by someone else). Benefits: some players will go for some obviously low scores and this will beef up those scores; those easily achieved records should attract more gamers to cause competition; some gamers will still go for hard-to-reach records making great viewing. The individual with the highest % across all the games is the winner.

      space invaders probably deserves one.
I guess involving any classics would be cool
I think whenever a tourney involves the best players it is fun and interesting. Brings out the best like recently stated.

What about the game Wacko? The title Wack Off basically markets itself.

Vs. Excitebike going for track times not game scores. There are 7 tracks so there can be competitions for individual tracks or all 7 tracks with a combined total. Playing for time is WAY more intense than just playing for score.

And of course I will always say Track & Field and Hyper Sports.

Targ is an awesome game! A barcade here in Ottawa is called The House of Targ. It is their feature game.

Very cool! What's your best score? My best is 41,320 on MAME. Jamie Panagos 210,810 MAME played his first game on my cabinet, and I've seen him put up a 300k game... his reason for not submitting... why? no one else is even close :)

I would love to see a roaming tournament going to different Barcades and Arcades across the country. Maybe like a "High Score North American Tour 2015". That would give plenty of opportunity for fans across the country that can't drop airfare $$$ to travel to Colorado or New Jersey to participate.

Except the House of Targ doesn't actually have the game Targ.....they have Spectar. Major Fail on their part and shows they don't really care about the games.

That explains why the game was so different on mame. Did you let them know that their cabinet is an imposter? I am happy they exist, not a whole lot of choice around these parts. The tron game rocks, so does that marble game ice cold beer.

I'd like to see "Tournament Cyberball 2072". It's one of the best games of the 80's and it's great for singles and doubles.
