• Movies about video games... what have you been watching??

So, this can act as the thread for gaming documentaries and other awesome video game movies.

There's been a slew of new ones recently so I'll just go ahead and name a few good ones I've seen.

Any other awesome ones you've seen recently, or ones you've loved for a long time?

The Video Game Years - Pretty thorough overview of the video game world. Worth a watch.

Tetris: From Russia With love - Neat and very in depth documentary from BBC on the origin of Tetris, including it's maker and it's interesting and controversial distribution.

Atari: Game Over - Cool doc about the infamous ET dump in a landfill. Well made movie about the not really that bad "worst game ever" and it's taking the brunt of Atari's crappiness.

Nintendo Quest - A guy tries to find a licensed set in 30 days, all from friends/stores, in person. It's okay but the "personal touch" by the filmmakers make it seem like a highschool production, or an episode of Flea Market Madness. Been there, done that. Interesting to see the hunt, but not including sold prices kills the fun. Could have been better produced and taken from an objective standpoint would have been more professional.

Anyways, those are just a few....

    Got any worth watching?

Can a mod please move this to the General Discussion forum, sorry!

The King of Arcades - Good Classic Arcade Game Doc.

World 1-1 - Doc that covers alot of the Atari era. Alot of interviews, but interesting.

I'm actually going to check out Nintendo Quest tonight.

Yeah, Nintendo Quest was okay. I kinda just wished it was me the whole time.

I was only able to watch about 20 minutes so far, I plan on watching the rest today, but I agree it would have been better to show what he was paying for the games. At the same time it's a unique idea for a documentary. It may get stagnant after awhile, I'll know after I watch the rest, but it was cool to see the game titles displayed on the screen as he purchases them. So many games I forgot about, and I also can't remember RC Pro Am 2. Any documentary about video games and I'm in.

Not a movie, just a short film on YouTube from around 2006 named "A.S.S" that is about the man who first used those initials as the high score on arcade games: Alexander Seymour Smith. Very short, but hilarious. http://youtu.be/bA-DReZYftg
Also recently saw the game shaq fu on a tv show on ABC, that was funny since there was just a shaq fu record here last week.

I think an honorable mention should go to The Space Invaders, which I believe came out two years ago. It's a fascinating (well, to me, at least!) documentary about people who collect arcade games...the arcade games, of course, being the things that are...invading space.

Yes, good one. Love watching these. Waiting for this Man vs Snake though. Think they found a distributor so for the people that haven't seen the screenings this will be great.

Man vs Snake I thought was the best of the recent releases.
Atari: Game Over - the interviews with the people who started Atari were great.
