Since this was a beta test, I'd like to do a quick recap over some things that were found/explored as a result of the test:

WolfMAME needs to be used for emulated console submissions.
In future tournaments, RU submissions will still be allowed, but WolfMAME will be preferred. It is less commonly known that MAME supports not only arcade games, but console games as well. If you don't own the console, cartridge, or flash cart, MAME will be a suitable alternative to generate an INP file that you can submit to both a competition and Twin Galaxies. For example, if Contra (NES) is a game in a competition, there will be a track for the MAME platform called "Contra [NES]" that you should be able to submit to.

    Bugs were found and fixed.
Four bugs were found on the site as a result of this beta test. Three of them were fixed, with the fourth fix currently in the works.

I will be sure Jace sees this thread, and he'll be working on getting prizes to the winners.

Also, don't forget that Yolympics is coming up! The game list has been announced, and can be found (along with registration) here:
    http://tournaments.twingalaxies.com/...olympics2/main

This is looking to be one of the best game lists in any MAME tournament I can recall, so I definitely hope you sign up if you haven't already! While the TGEF NES Rematch event was only 1 week long, Yolympics is over 4 weeks!

Records were shattered during this event. Just crazy, crazy stuff.

After I submitted my "final" score for Sky Kid, I looked at the standings. I was 3rd, with 2nd place only one point away and 1st less than 10 points away. Having intended to call it a night, I started frantically to find a game that I could improve upon in less than 40 minutes. Paperboy was the only thing I could think of as it only takes about 15-20 minutes per attempt.

So I tried a Paperboy run and improved by score enough to TIE 2nd place!

This was the top of the leaderboard about 11:40 Sunday:

      11550

Little did I know that Joe (SSDNinja) was ahead of me by 1 HUNDREDTH of a point! So I frantically started recording again with less than 20 minutes left.

I raced through the game, swearing the whole time. I thought my microphone was muted - apparently not! :)

So this was my final score on that attempt with less than 7 minutes to finish the recording and submit. It was enough to bump me into 2nd place.

      11551

I don't imagine anyone has ever played Paperboy before with such intensity. :)

Great tournament everybody! The scoring format was very engaging and competitive. Although I was unable to participate over this past weekend I kept an eye on the log and was impressed. Great to see the activity when the deadline is closing in! Plus I got 7 new NES submissions to TG out of it :)

This really was a lot of fun. Great job to everyone. Lots of insane scores. I'm very happy I was able to participate in this. Special thanks to Joe for the back and forth battle for 1st place, pushing me to try and better my scores. Also big congrats to Don bringing in higher scores to bump himself up to second with that Paperboy score. To everyone I chatted/messaged with, thanks to you guys too. I hope we can do this again in the near future.

The Olympics game list is amazing. I might actually be of some use this time around.

Congrats everyone. Will people also be submitting their scores to the database?

I know Don submitted several and I did as well. A lot of submissions, though, were done on RetroUprising which wouldn't be valid. Not sure of the 160 scores how many were on RU but I'd guess half or more. Just a guess.

A majority of my game play was done on RetroUprising. Only because the editing and uploading process was too long and tedious. I do intend on doing another Dr. Mario run in the near future since I up'd my 642K to 935K for the competition. I'm itching to break 1 Million.

You guys and your falling block games... Consistently the worst part of my game despite the number of hours I've logged on Tetris in my life. Dr. Mario was actually a first-time play for me in this tournament as I've avoided it so far in my career :)

I was anticipating a lot of scores coming in from the top 3 players on the last day and you guys didn't disappoint. I kept on checking on the standings the last day of the event and every time I saw new submissions and the point spread get super tight a few times. Good stuff from all that played, especially the top 3. Exciting to the end! If I even tried to compete, I would have had my ass handed to me. good stuff from all of you!

I don't want anyone to overlook this part. This is kind of a big deal. There will be the possibility of using MAME to emulate console games and post those performances on the MAME platform. That's a big change. Do we know when we can expect this to be acceptable?

This is different from other platform tracks where emulators are used. Those tracks typically reside on the platform where the ROM originally hailed from (Nintendo Entertainment System in the example of Contra) and use an EMU format qualifier much like NTSC and PAL are used. Example of this would be: Nintendo Entertainment System - Contra [EMU - Points]

Let me add one more point to this. Right now if you download WolfMAME, the pre-compiled builds that are available are arcade-only. You can roll your own build that supports consoles (and I've done this locally to test). Once the next console event happens, I'll post a build of WolfMAME that supports consoles for both Windows and Mac if someone hasn't already by that time.

Because it still runs on MAME and generates an INP, it only makes sense for these tracks to go into the MAME platform. Another alternative would be for Jace/team to create a MESS platform (MESS is all the console code in the "MAME project", whereas MAME is all the arcade code in the "MAME project").
