TWIN GALAXIES
04-12-2017 at 12:07 AM

As you may have noticed, the Twin Galaxies website just underwent a significant upgrade. :)

We recommend that if you have visited the Twin Galaxies site prior to April 11th, that you please clear your web browser's cache and refresh the site a couple times to clear out all the old TG webcode and replace it with the new stuff. Not doing this may result in some website display issues.

A tremendous amount of work and changes are currently being activated and as they come online there will likely be some initial problems to correct. We appreciate your patience as we discover and sort out these lingering issues.

The changes are extensive, however there are some notable items:

Site is a bit easier to see and navigate on mobile. Yay!

Search system has been upgraded! In the upper right corner of the site is a search magnifying glass. This is the new search function and the site will now return much better and useful results that it had previously.

Upload system has been upgraded! We believe that we have successfully solved the issue that some members with slower connections were having when uploading large files. Additionally, members can now choose multiple files at once to upload. Give it a try! :)

Premium Tracks (track filtering)
We have implemented the first stage of our leaderboard (track) filtering system. This directly addresses member's ongoing concerns regarding database track dilution through ongoing user track creation.

There are only 2 types of Tracks in our system. PREMIUM and NOT PREMIUM.

Premium Tracks are what all users will see by default.

Premium Tracks are tracks that are considered by Twin Galaxies to have at least one (1) of these attributes:

High Quality (as determined by Twin Galaxies Administration)
Sufficiently Competed On
Promotional of Twin Galaxies' Goals as an Organization

Starting in May 2017, only records held on Premium Tracks will be eligible for entry into the Guinness Book of World Records.

User created tracks are not Premium by default.

In order for a user created track to become Premium, it must either be made premium by Twin Galaxies Administration, or the track must have at least 10 adjudicated records on it.

When a user created track contains 10 adjudicated records, it will automatically become Premium as it will have reached the minimum participation standard. It will then become eligible to be submitted to Guinness World Records.

The current Premium tracks that are established and viewable are all of the tracks that were acquired from the previous era of Twin Galaxies (prior to April 2014.) This effectively removes any and all new era user created track dilution from the system default view (unless a user created track has more than 10 records - then it is now premium as well.)

User created tracks that may not ever be able to achieve the 10 participant minimum, but are high quality and have some competitors that would like the track to become premium can have the original track founders submit a request for TG admin to review and consider.

We hope that you like the upgrades and appreciate your patience as we work out all the kinks!

More info soon!

But the PM button is no where to be seen along with the profile being a total mess. So i will request here.
dude what are u talking about i just went to the twin galaxies profile and it looks totally fine. there is even a little mail icon that you can click on to send a pm

On a lighter note, change the notification color. That white lettering on a light gray background is almost impossible to read, especially for us color blind folks. Please and thank you.

I don't have any scores to submit this second(gasp!), so can't check the video upload button, but the rest of the site bugs seem to be straightened out now, at least the ones I had noticed.

Good Job, TG, it will just take us a while to get used to.
@rotunda I may be out of line here but you're being pretty sensitive. I don't think this kills any chances of new games getting into Guinness. Everything's still visible. Also a few weeks to get a track updated ain't that bad.

Yes you're one of the most active recent members but you're acting pretty entitled and impatient instead of acting understanding and invested in TG.

Everyone - be patient.
C'mon man...
I got Ridge Racer 64 last year it plays pretty great.

Also I hate the temper tantrum storm-off, especially when it's about something that (in my opinion) is as superficial as the way tracks are displayed and grouped/labeled. The tantrum is especially weak when it has to do with the person throwing the tantrum not liking how things are going because of all THEY have done and all THEY deserve. Childish. If he really quits he's not a gamer he's a glory chaser.

I'll crap on some records. What about the records that we know for a fact are fake and are now upgraded to being "premium" records? We need a challenge system. Say what you want about silly tracks, fake scores hurt the credibility or TG more than that. Fake impossible to beat scores hurt your chance to get into guinness since well, you cant top them. Fake impossible to beat scores is also something the community has complained about. Unlike crap tracks which have people defending them and their are two sides, i've heard zero people stand up for fake cheated scores. We reaaaaally need the challenge system. That upgrade would be so much better than anything else.

I agree with you entirely. We need a challenge system. Fake scores are the worst thing for TG. But I'm not gonna storm off when another non-challenge implementation occurs on the site. And the non-challenge implementation doesn't crap on any records is what I meant.

Its just like when PSI was created people were up in arms about the definition of skill. Now people are up in arms about the definition of Premium. I do think that is a very poor choice of words to use, but I don't think it means anything. It just means High Participation.

Let's relabel them as Popular not Premium. Show only Popular tracks looks way better at the bottom of the records page than Show only Premium tracks.

Agreed, I said it last night on the show. That is the #1 thing that will help TG's creditability moving forward. TG need that more than anything else. but there needs to be conclusive evidence to remove a score.

I think I actually added one RR64 track but never finished. I asked Jason about it but he said it wasn't a game he wanted to play or something along those lines. I don't really remember the reason however but I would like to see some competition on it.

Jason, without the insults, Ben has a point. No matter how against the situation is on the update, I refuse to quit. Those fish records won't catch themselves you know?

We are gamers. Just hit reset and keep trying.

I said I wasn't familiar with it enough to help. I've literally never played RR 64 so I really can't help you sorry.

Well it's not working correctly on Chrome, W10. Dunno what else to tell you.

Then you need to get on it man! It's all about becoming a complete champion even if that means good ole RR64. ;)

You wouldn't believe all the crap fishing games I'm going to have to go through to become fishing champion of the world.

Never say never, maybe one day who knows.

Anyway, enough about me, I'm off now guys I left a week or so ago and only came back to see what this was all about.

Good luck to you all and keep up the good work TG. Even though i don't agree with some of the priorities here (who really cares what i think anyway) you do great work and from what i understand TG is currently MUCH better than it has ever been so thank you for the hard work.

Quick bit of input on the premium track thing.. would it not be easier to add a premium vote option to game creation and people can vote it to be prem or not? Just a thought as 10 submissions will be hard.

All the best everyone and good luck.

I've reread this thread a few times now, and once again this morning with fresh mind and eyes.

Im 100% comfortable with the term Premium and if it takes a while for non-Premium user founded tracks to be certified as Premium, so be it. If that means some tracks miss the cut for the next GWR book, so be it. If this means tracks like DK Score in Attract Mode get reviewed by TG and are NOT certified as Premium, hallelujah. Hallelujah. Praise Glob.

Ill be submiting some requests for some of my founded tracks to be made Premium. Also any WR score I hold on user founded tracks that I didn't found, that I think are worth review, I'll be contacting the founders for their assistance in submitting the request to TG.

After the bugs were ironed out with seeing all tracks on the boards (I guess there may still be issues with submitting per Rodrigo's comments but I personally have been able to submit) I'm happy to say I like the new system. I like the new site. I like that there's a full-function mobile version now.

I care more about filtering the tracks here at TG than I do about having tracks visible to GWR. I am a patient man and can wait for all new tracks to be reviewed per request and I can wait for all classic tracks to be reviewed as well. In the meantime let's game and let's adjudicate. Lots of submissions out there to adjudicate.

Follow-up:

The future state of Premium vs non-Premium track designations that I envision and expect is one where all new tracks added by users with clearly defined rules and good intentions and spirit of the game will all be designated as Premium.

I, like a lot of you, have added tracks simply because the game was not represented yet. A very large portion of user founded tracks, possibly the majority, are filling in gaps and adding new games that weren't previously tracked. I can't imagine TG not making those tracks Premium since they represent an expansion of coverage in the database and not an additional variation to an already present TG track.

What will be left behind will be variations that are redundant or silly and tracks that are potentially problematic with the way they are defined and ruled, both of which I'm happy to see happen and think it will have a positive impact.

EDIT: I'm not saying people shouldn't be able to found tracks for Attract Mode score. It's their right to envision a track and competition and make it a reality BUT I think it's perfectly fine for TG to choose what is represented as Premium to GWR and the world (if it has
