TWIN GALAXIES

As you may have noticed, the Twin Galaxies website just underwent a significant upgrade. :)

We recommend that if you have visited the Twin Galaxies site prior to April 11th, that you please clear your web browser's cache and refresh the site a couple times to clear out all the old TG webcode and replace it with the new stuff. Not doing this may result in some website display issues.

A tremendous amount of work and changes are currently being activated and as they come online there will likely be some initial problems to correct. We appreciate your patience as we discover and sort out these lingering issues.

The changes are extensive, however there are some notable items:

Site is a bit easier to see and navigate on mobile. Yay!

Search system has been upgraded! In the upper right corner of the site is a search magnifying glass. This is the new search function and the site will now return much better and useful results that it had previously.

Upload system has been upgraded! We believe that we have successfully solved the issue that some members with slower connections were having when uploading large files. Additionally, members can now choose multiple files at once to upload. Give it a try! :)

Premium Tracks (track filtering)
We have implemented the first stage of our leaderboard (track) filtering system. This directly addresses member's ongoing concerns regarding database track dilution through ongoing user track creation.

There are only 2 types of Tracks in our system. PREMIUM and NOT PREMIUM.

Premium Tracks are what all users will see by default.

Premium Tracks are tracks that are considered by Twin Galaxies to have at least one (1) of these attributes:

High Quality (as determined by Twin Galaxies Administration)
Sufficiently Competed On
Promotional of Twin Galaxies' Goals as an Organization

Starting in May 2017, only records held on Premium Tracks will be eligible for entry into the Guinness Book of World Records.

User created tracks are not Premium by default.

In order for a user created track to become Premium, it must either be made premium by Twin Galaxies Administration, or the track must have at least 10 adjudicated records on it.

When a user created track contains 10 adjudicated records, it will automatically become Premium as it will have reached the minimum participation standard. It will then become eligible to be submitted to Guinness World Records.

The current Premium tracks that are established and viewable are all of the tracks that were acquired from the previous era of Twin Galaxies (prior to April 2014.) This effectively removes any and all new era user created track dilution from the system default view (unless a user created track has more than 10 records - then it is now premium as well.)

User created tracks that may not ever be able to achieve the 10 participant minimum, but are high quality and have some competitors that would like the track to become premium can have the original track founders submit a request for TG admin to review and consider.

We hope that you like the upgrades and appreciate your patience as we work out all the kinks!

More info soon!
Is the ten competitors guaranteed to make it premium or does tg reserve the right to unpremium it regardless of number of submissions
I think 10 is a lot

I have many records to submit for Android and 3DS and the variations in not available, they will back? The site still under maintenance?

@Jace Hall @TWIN GALAXIES Can i request all tracks on the following games/platforms be made premium?

Arcade - Ridge Racer

Arcade - Ridge Racer Full Scale

Arcade - Rave Racer

I was hoping these scores would make it in the book this year, if you are saying these now won't make it in due to not being premium then that is really unfair. Granted they don't have 10 submissions but these are not novelty tracks and are from a iconic game.

Hi, I love the new site design! But I've noticed that across the different platforms various games, games that you could originally submit scores for, have been taken out. Will those games return, have they been placed somewhere else, or are they gone for good?

Oh, and PlayStation - Ridge Racer Turbo Mode/Hi Spec demo needs to be premium as i had that in the Guinness book last year so they do track that game...

Totally agree... Makes TG ten times more confusing and now there is much more work for the admins to do. I for one have some requests for premium. If all the efforts I've put into adjudicating to create the endless Ridge Racer tracks and submit to each one doesn't even count as a WR or can't be premium that is just ridiculous. Yet more punishment for people who keep this place going (the members/adjudicators).

Exactly...

I feel sorry for all the people who will miss out on a book entry because of this new idea.

I noticed that too... Is it because they aren't premium and therefore don't show up on the normal scoreboard?

TG talks about moving forward and expanding but always seems to make doing so very hard work.

This just hinders growth yet again as new members now have to join, adjudicate, create a new track for their game (maybe), and then submit to that game only to not be "premium" so it's all pointless anyway. As new games come out none will be premium and TG stays as the site to come to for old 80's arcade WR's.

Really not feeling this idea, sorry.

Another point to add on that, while the games are removed (the entire Game & Watch section for example is completely cleared off) individual scores still remain. Which makes me hope they'll be put back up.

Could be the site sorting itself after the update. I hope so at least.

Still not feeling the idea though...

The upload video button on the submission page takes me to my homepage here. I've noticed subs being made today, so isn't a universal problem evidently, but really needs to be sorted out soon.

Hello everyone,

It seems like most of us are on the same page here. While it seems like a good idea to try to promote or give members an incentive to post more scores to the various tracks that we have now, whether they are worthy of being number one or not, this initial premium track idea does not seem like it will work well in this current state. I'm all for ideas that will benefit the community and while filters could prove useful in the future it really needs to be fleshed out.

I agree with those that said that 10 submissions is too high for a track to be considered premium. With the 10 submissions rule in place it could put emphasis on games that are really easy to post scores for, or ones that have been featured in a tournament with more than 10 contestants. However, this could make other very significant records seem pointless based on the number of current submissions. New tracks will almost certainly suffer on this one, even if the game had been released a decade or more ago.

Speaking of filters, maybe we could see a genre specialty filter added to the site in the future along with specialty tags for our members?

I love that the site is constantly evolving, hopefully these ideas can help it along. Thank you

I guess one thing TG and I will never agree on is that there is some sort of correlation between number of scores on a track and the amount of skill it takes to be #1 or the quality of such track.

This is another example of how TG is trying to come up with a complicated solution when the real answer was simple. There should have been some sort of quality control put in place regarding new tracks. I'm thinking the only solution now is to put up all new tracks to a vote to see if the community finds them "premium". The hole that's been dug is deep and this would be a major pain but I don't see any other way out of this mess.

I also find it interesting that we have the option of asking TG to make our tracks premium. All other decision seem to be left up to the community and I'm not sure why this would be different?

1. I have full confidence that the scoreboards and platforms that are missing will be made readily available for browsing and submitting. The idea that some of the database has gone away is not something that I even think is possible let alone intended by TG and it is certainly not desirable.

2. Premium tracks needing to have 10 scores to be considered as such is bogus. Make it TWO or THREE scores to be Premium or scrap the designation altogether.

I'm sure the Premium idea was brought about by users wanting to know which tracks have more scores on them for competition and ESI purposes but this seems like going around your ass to get to your elbow.

Well said, funny that isn't it...

Probably because GWR have had a word and are asking for TG to filter things and make it less work for them when it comes to the snapshot.

These were created to fill gaps in the leaderboard e.g. Freeway for the Atari 2600
These are standard titles that the NTSC user has as default.

I understand that it can become PREMIUM if 10 scores get accepted but this is very unlikely as you can count on one hand the active PAL users.

I know @jmb had requested all PAL tracks to created by TG.

Maybe this could be looked at in the near future ??
If there are NTSC PREMIUM versions of the tracks the PAL versions will automatically be considered PREMIUM. Please send a PM to Twin Galaxies with all the Tracks that meet this criteria.

No games have been removed. If you do not see them can you please identify what you have found to be missing and we will investigate.

Quality control has now been put in place.

If there is confusion about this let me try to clear it up:

1.) If you want to see all the Tracks as previously before, all you have to do is uncheck the "Only Show Premium Tracks" checkbox. All tracks then become visible.

2.) A track that is heavily competed on will automatically become Premium when it has enough entries. This is one form of quality control.

3.) Track creators can submit a request to TG to have their track upgraded to Premium. TG will in its own discretion decide whether the track will be upgraded. (This is exactly how all tracks prior to 2014 were placed in the database. Referees decided and entered in all tracks. This is another form of quality control.)

That's it. There is no further complication. Hopefully that helps clear up the understanding!

Yeah this just kills all of your modern tracks. Now none of the xBox One submissions are attemptable and none of them will probably ever be considered premium. That's absolutely ridiculous. Ten approved records is way too many. You're killing half of your site by doing that. All of my iOS records are now pointless if they have no chance of getting in the book. Yeah, not a fan of this update. lol I come back because everyones like stay, you're a big part, keep it modern, and then this kills me even more. I can't catch a break.

I mean really, how much more on point can someone be. Everyone was trying to convince you to stay and keep the modern tracks up.. hell even I like submitting to modern tracks. I feel as if any modern track or obscure game is getting snubbed. Now we have to request is any it's still not a guarantee it'll get premium status. Before making this move, they should have added more games to the database because seriously.. look at how many games are missing from them.. even from older game systems. Look at the Game Gear database.. over 300 games were made for that machine.

It is because of these weird tracks that were made for Donkey Kong? Why is there a need for quality control like this? Shouldn't we just be able to put the BAD tracks up for non-premium status instead of going through all the games all the members have worked to create and putting them in "questionable" premium status?

Here is the another issue. Most competitors (not all) don't submit unless they got 1st place. So that will slowdown or prevent, some of these tracks to becoming a premium track.

SUBMIT to TG for premium track consideration how do we do this????
