As you may have noticed, the Twin Galaxies website just underwent a significant upgrade. :)

We recommend that if you have visited the Twin Galaxies site prior to April 11th, that you please clear your web browser's cache and refresh the site a couple times to clear out all the old TG webcode and replace it with the new stuff. Not doing this may result in some website display issues.

A tremendous amount of work and changes are currently being activated and as they come online there will likely be some initial problems to correct. We appreciate your patience as we discover and sort out these lingering issues.

The changes are extensive, however there are some notable items:

Site is a bit easier to see and navigate on mobile. Yay!

Search system has been upgraded! In the upper right corner of the site is a search magnifying glass. This is the new search function and the site will now return much better and useful results that it had previously.

Upload system has been upgraded! We believe that we have successfully solved the issue that some members with slower connections were having when uploading large files. Additionally, members can now choose multiple files at once to upload. Give it a try! :)

Premium Tracks (track filtering)
We have implemented the first stage of our leaderboard (track) filtering system. This directly addresses member's ongoing concerns regarding database track dilution through ongoing user track creation.

There are only 2 types of Tracks in our system. PREMIUM and NOT PREMIUM.

Premium Tracks are what all users will see by default.

Premium Tracks are tracks that are considered by Twin Galaxies to have at least one (1) of these attributes:

High Quality (as determined by Twin Galaxies Administration)
Sufficiently Competed On
Promotional of Twin Galaxies' Goals as an Organization

Starting in May 2017, only records held on Premium Tracks will be eligible for entry into the Guinness Book of World Records.

User created tracks are not Premium by default.

In order for a user created track to become Premium, it must either be made premium by Twin Galaxies Administration, or the track must have at least 10 adjudicated records on it.

When a user created track contains 10 adjudicated records, it will automatically become Premium as it will have reached the minimum participation standard. It will then become eligible to be submitted to Guinness World Records.

The current Premium tracks that are established and viewable are all of the tracks that were acquired from the previous era of Twin Galaxies (prior to April 2014.) This effectively removes any and all new era user created track dilution from the system default view (unless a user created track has more than 10 records - then it is now premium as well.)

User created tracks that may not ever be able to achieve the 10 participant minimum, but are high quality and have some competitors that would like the track to become premium can have the original track founders submit a request for TG admin to review and consider.

We hope that you like the upgrades and appreciate your patience as we work out all the kinks!

More info soon!

Images - Forum Posts vs. Private Messages

I'm not sure when the following issue originally surfaced, or whether it is related to the recent site updates.

If I want to insert an image into a forum reply, there are 2 methods:

  • From Computer
  • From URL

However, when I attempt to insert an image into a private message, only the URL option is available.

Why?

In the past, a local JPEG file could be uploaded & added to a private message, after clicking the "Go Advanced" button (see below):

I don't know exactly when that functionality was lost.

I also don't know if the change was intentional, or a glitch.

Shoutbox Truncation

This has been an issue for more than 2 years.

Here is a recent example (on April 14th) from the Last Completed Adjudications shoutbox tab:

* Siliconian 's submission Nintendo 3DS - Hyrule Warriors Legends - Adventure Mode - Adventure Map - C14 - Defeat All Giant Bosses in Tim* [04:41 PM]

(1) The track title is incomplete.
(2) The submitted score (clear time) is missing.
(3) The submitter's name is missing.
(4) The adjudication result (accepted or rejected) is missing.

The item should appear as follows:

* Siliconian 's submission Nintendo 3DS - Hyrule Warriors Legends - Adventure Mode - Adventure Map - C14 - Defeat All Giant Bosses in Time! LV.5 [Clear Time] - 01:05.0 - Rodrigo Lopes has been accepted* [04:41 PM]

Thanks for adding the search function to the Score Database by Person, that's very helpful. Not sure if it's a recent change but I really like the speed choices in the video player, nice feature to slow a performance down for better clarification during adjudication.

This is by design and will not be adjusted at this current time. Thread length is an issue and must be managed and truncated. The shoutbox is only supposed to be a quick visual reference for users and each item that appears in it is linked to the actual occurrence that is being shouted so users can get more information on the shout if they choose to.

TG Forum Navigation Bar

The black navigation bar appears near the top of most pages.

Please consider a different color scheme (see below):

Gray text on a black background is not a user-friendly choice.

A couple of other shoutbox suggestions:

Size

The Last Completed Adjudications tab only holds the 25 most recent items. An increase to 50 items would be helpful. On multiple occasions, a large number of submissions have completed overnight. Digging through the Shoutbox Archive to identify and capture all of them is a tedious and time-consuming process.

Behavior

Scrolling through recent announcements is consistently interrupted. There appears to be an automatic refresh every 8 seconds, causing the shoutbox to "snap back" to the last posted item. This characteristic is a nuisance. If it cannot be disabled, how about increasing the delay to 60 seconds, or some other value?

The Shoutbox Archive

The archive is a complete mess, and a major source of frustration.

Duplication has been a persistent issue for the past 2 years.

The last TG response was on April 04, 2015 at 3:40 PM (EDT):

Because most shouts are duplicated 10-12 times, all activity that occurred more than 6 weeks ago has been purged from the archive.

The problem appears to have been downgraded from LOW priority to NO priority.

Also, the shoutbox search function does not work. Every search I have attempted has returned a limited number of puzzling results, which appear to have nothing in common with the search parameters originally provided.

Finally, the number of trivial announcements is excessive. For example, shouts are generated whenever someone achieves a "milestone" (any multiple of 50) in various categories. Does anyone really care that Member XYZ has reached 8700 shouts, 450 "Likes" given, or 250 "Thanks" received?

I agree with the refresh rate being too quick. It makes it very hard to read through everything in there.

This. So very much this. Perusing the contents of the shoutbox is an exercise in frustration when the refresh snaps you back to the bottom every 8 seconds.

Shoutbox now contains last 200 occurrences.
Shoutbox will now only refresh every 2 minutes instead of 10 seconds.

@TWIN GALAXIES @admin staff

If you recently did something to the uploader, it has not worked for me and all my different web browsers. It's like right after you hit the submit button and the message comes up about it taking some time yadda yadda and you try to hit the confirm button in that box and it doesn't register. You hit confirm or even the Enter key on your keyboard and it'll act like you just exited out without confirming it thus making it stay at 0% afterwards. I will post a screenshot but I doubt you'll see it anyways.

The picture should show what happens after you click the FIRST submit button when you get done entering in all the information and the PLEASE NOTE confirmation pops after and you need to click SUBMIT again but it doesn't register the first time you click it. If it doesn't register the first time you click it, it acts like if you had canceled it when you click it again.

@Desidious i can't see both screenshots. I have same issue, too. System told me that everything works, but first adjudicators wrote, that there is no video. @admin staff @ TWIN GALAXIES can you bring my 15 submission points back, please?

Even by changing browser and Computer (I am in university network now) I can not upload. It sticks at 0%. Internet speed test showed an above-average 4800Mbit/s upload speed, it should be at least sufficient. Download is bit faster, 7.8Gbit/s. Sitting in Department of Animal Breeding and Breeding informatics. We are sending entire genomes.

I just submitted a score, the video uploaded and said it was processing but when I look at the submission it's gone.

Can someone please link it back to my submission?
