Regarding Ad questions and Editorial:

As some of you may have noticed, the header and footer of the site have been updated. For a brief moment they were displaying ads, but that has been disabled.

You may need to clear your browser's cache in order for these changes to display properly for you.

The new header/footer on the site is in preparation for the new editorial news system that TG will be bringing online in the next few days.

TG will have a complete editorial staff that will be focused on news/achievements/events relating to competitive video game playing, and will carry a distinct voice and perspective on the subject.

The editorial experience of TG will be economically supported in part by on site ad placement.
The submission and adjudicative experience of TG will not have on site ad placement.

We are excited about the upcoming addition of editorial and we look forward to the increased TG presence it will build.

Regarding the Tribunal function and site moderation:

The level of ongoing toxicity that seems to continue to permeate the community has not settled down to acceptable levels despite TG allowing a 3 year time period for it to naturally do so.

Therefore, Twin Galaxies administration has decided that it is now time to retire the member tribunal function and replace it with direct and heavy administrative moderation.

While the Tribunal system has been successful in many regards, the slow nature of its ability to apply moderation control allows for too much pollutive noise to exist on the site for too long a period before things escalate high enough for it to perform its function - and this has resulted in an unacceptable amount of negative initial experiences for new members coming into the environment.

So effective immediately, Twin Galaxies has moved to an admin-only moderation modality.

Furthermore, admin has been instructed to utilize a heavy hand in its application of warnings, thread/comment deletions, suspensions and bans - all of which are purely at the discretion of admin's judgement.

Admin is under no obligation to issue a warning of any kind before taking action. Again, this is all at admin's discretion.

The overall goal is to ensure a safe and family friendly environment for all Twin Galaxies members to participate securely within. We are going to strongly discourage toxic behavior and reward more positive interaction.

We are aware that some members may disappointed with these policy and site changes, however after much thought and discussion we feel strongly that this is the right management direction for Twin Galaxies as it continues to grow.

Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter.

This is a little bit too serious and political for me. On that note, take care everyone.

Thank you for the answer to our recent questions. I believe that self moderation could still work if it had different parameters:
- 30 day suspension is the only option
- 24 hour time limit
- most votes wins (no minimum required)
- registered users with 1100 credibility can vote

Too late for that though. It was a grand experiment, and fun while it lasted.

I am still very happy with the amount of activity and game related posts people are making. I look forward to the editorial content.

I agree with JJT. It would be nice to see names. We all know Franny, Dave and Jace. Other such as Admin Staff are shrouded in mystery.

With more people on staff, I hope there is more effort put into "State of the Galaxies" so we the community members are not taken by surprise, but are made to feel as part of the team.

Just my thoughts.

EDIT

I would also like to see a list of rules and a definition unacceptable behavior. People throw that term around sometimes simply because they disagree with another opinion, or they don't like the new TGSAP process.

Heavy handed moderation is understandable, but insta-bans with no warning is a complete switch of directions from what the community has been used to for the past 3 years.

"Have fun and game on!" used to be the motto.

Now it seems to be "Tread Lightly for we carry a big stick"

First of all, wow jjt, well stated. I had similar questions. How can we follow the rules if we don't know what they are. I'm also curious how anyone can answer your the questions unless they are an admin. i have very simlar questions, as well as some others.

1. Of course ads make sense, but for a long time we were told there would never ever be ads. The reason stated is the person paying for the ads will have influence over TG and that could create issue. Wont ads combined with heavy moderation that has no rules and is full of judgement calls create just that issue? Whats stopping someone who pays the ads from exerting their influence and getting comments removed about any submssion that goes negative against one of their favorites? heavy moderation, in the hands of someone with a conflict of interest could restore all the issues of the days of refs. What has made TG do such a 180 on this after so many times definitively saying "tg is church" and that such a thing would never and could never be allowed to happen?

2. yes, the rules. How can we follow the rules if we don't know what they are? This is basically what jjt asked and i think its a fair question. I understand things like racism or child **** need to be removed immediately, but that's pretty easy to put into a list. I don't understand the reason to allow such wide judgement calls for thing that no one would even think to put into a list ahead of time. If its too minor to even realize its a problem ahead of time and give us clear rules on, then why is it so deserving of instant punishment?

3. is there a difference in moderation at wall threads versus adjudiciation. Adjudication by its nature requires more arguing. Challenge system requires accusations. These things are controversial in nature. Can these permanent threads now have comments deleted due to the moderation?

4. With all these rules suddenly being changed out of nowhere, can you confirm the rule preventing employees from competing stil applies? Similarly, will people who pay for ads also be prevented from competing?

One point I would like to stress.

The community as it stands is not populated with "normies".

We consist of people who are obsessive over video game scores, challenges, disputes, etc. We dig for evidence. We hold our ground when challenged. We thrive on minutia. We demand actions follow strictly defined rules. Our intelligence and imagination is higher than average, on average.

A community of highly talented, intelligent, obsessive and imaginative people needs answers in advance of their questions. When big changes happen with no explanation, our predictive processes go into overdrive and we begin discussing wild theories amongst ourselves.

This has happened plenty of times in the past.

I urge Twin Galaxies ownership, management, administration to please give your beloved community more frequent updates on the State of the Galaxies, and even the Future Plans of the Galaxies.
I think the general rule is "don't be an *******".

That is subjective because everyone can see someone being funny and ass... and joker and even a racist all in the same Sentence!!!!!!!

If you need a list of how to not be an *******....smh
So yes we need a clear cut list, remember we have thick skinned, softies, and people who like to throw the race card, so how do we know what is ok and not!!!!

If I mention Koolaid will I get time out?
it sounds silly but this is the problem

Yes I think we need to dive in, be ourselves and see what happens. If I get a temp ban I'll learn from it and get a sense of where the limits are. I don't see this as TG wanting to turn us into Teletubbies. We will continue to agree and disagree, at times strongly. Where it isn't respectfully, I imagine we'll see a reaction.

if thats the rule i'd like it stated. it can be phrased as something like "dont say things that would get you fired" no list needed. I'm concerned though that with certain members at TG having special status and protection that opening a dispute against the score of the wrong person could get punished. when i see no guidelines it scares me that its a return to the days of dont dare question the scores of the favorites. i'd really appreciate confirmation that its just about stopping what an unbiased person would consider inappropriate.

"We need a list outlining what the rules are" (as previously mentioned - How to not be a ******).

Translation: "Please give us a list so we can pick it apart, figure out loopholes, and then get upset claiming our behavior wasn't specifically outlined on said list when we act like a ****** and get banned."

If you need a list for this then it might be better for everyone else if there is no list so you all will have to indefinitely walk around on eggshells.
 • alarm

I really this change is not because a bunch of people from one little circle influenced you Jace!!!!! Especially when NONE of them submit scores and I will bet none of them will submit classic scores, the last time the score was a screen shot!!!!!

you're the third person who said that now, so i've reread thinking maybe i missed something. i didnt see anywhere where it just said something to the effect of "dont be a jerk". I saw it saying admins have discretion without saying what that discretion was about. I'm not looking for loophoes, i'm fine with general worded rules that are based on spirit rather than letter. But with all discretion and not even once mentioned officially "dont be an ass" (that seems to be the hope though never officially stated, officially stating something to that effect once would make me feel better).

you may not realize this, but weeks before this official post was made, someone on facebook (i'm afraid i mention whom i'll get banned) already announced this saying the new admins where in her court and were going to ban the people she doesnt like for her. The fact she predicted this post weeks before it happened makes me concerned the power really is that open to discretion.

This issue is a lot like leeching, IMO. We all know not to do it, we all know how to do it, and generally we know it when we see it. The small percentage of the time it fits in a grey area and there is some controversy no one is getting banned for cheating as a result of it.

Though I can't find it, I did mention to the @admin staff that something like FFXIV when they announce when the scheduled maintenance will roughly begin and roughly end. Then, before the patch is downloaded you would go over the patch notes showing the update. Something similar to this should definitely be considered.

TG admin says we're going to moderate and we have final say. TG community says we want well defined rules. TG admin says, ok, but as we stated above, we have final say which ultimately means the rules can be changed anytime we want.

Conclusion: The need for "written" rules spawns from a general distrust of the rule writers (but interestingly maintains a trust that once written, the rules will remain constant?). That makes no sense at all

1. Who are the Editorial Staff Members Names so Twin Galaxy Members Know?
They will be introduced when the editorial part of the site is activated.

2. Who are the Twin Galaxy Staff Administration who will be Making these Judgments Their Names so Twin Galaxy Members know?
Names are irrelevant. It is any/all of TG admin, whomever that is at the time.

3. How is it economically supported in part by on site ad placement Please Explain to Twin Galaxy Members?
ADs will appear in areas that are part of the editorial system.

4.What do you & TG Staff Consider Pollutive Noise? Examples so Twin Galaxy Members Can Understand it Better?
Examples will not be provided. If a member conducts themselves in accordance with the TOS then they will likely not have an issue - https://www.twingalaxies.com/faq.php?faq=tgp#faq_tos

5. What do you & TG Staff Consider Toxic Behavior please Give Examples so Twin Galaxy Members Can Understand it Better?? It Differentiates from Person to Person. That is a Vague Description?
Please see the TG Terms of Service - https://www.twingalaxies.com/faq.php?faq=tgp#faq_tos - This will give you some idea, but admin is at liberty to curb any behavior it views as toxic for any reason.

Furthermore, admin has been instructed to utilize a heavy hand in its application of warnings, thread/comment deletions, suspensions and bans - all of which are purely at the discretion of admin's judgement.

6. Please Explain in Detail to Twin Galaxy Members all These Suspensions & Ban's The Length that a Twin Galaxy Member Who Violated the Rules of Conduct on the Forums?
No. There will be no explanation. Member's will conduct them appropriately on this site, or they will be met with the heavy hand of admin. End of story. There will be no debate.

7. Are Twin Galaxy Members who Contributed the Most Money to Twin Galaxy will be Exempted from this? A Lot Twin Galaxy Members would like to know
No one is exempted from the heavy hand of admin.

Admin is under no obligation to issue a warning of any kind before taking action. Again, this is all at admin's discretion.

#1 Are you Going Tell Them What the Infraction or Ruler that was Violated or do it Blindly? Twin Galaxy Members would like to know?
It is at admin's discretion whether or not they want to explain a moderation action or decision. Admin is under no obligation to explain themselves to members for any reason. Their obligation is to maintain a toxic free environment within Twin Galaxies.

What your Saying Jace Hall your Not going Tell the Twin Galaxy Member What Rule or Infraction was being Broken Just do the Communist way No Notification or Trial
Admin will determine the course of action for every particular situation it is dealing with. The heavy hand of admin need not explain itself. Member's should carry no expectations of guaranteed explanation. Admin will determine in its own right what it deems fair and appropriate action.

What About the American Way of Justice?
The new moderation policy is not modeled on the American Way of Justice.

A Twin Galaxy Administration Staff may have Personal Grudge against a Twin Galaxy Member which has nothing with any Infraction being Violated which would not be Right or Just & not in God's Eyes
Unfortunately, the good lord is not directly making TOS behavior judgements and moderating TG user behavior, so until that time it is best for a member to avoid developing personal grudges with administrative staff.
