Tribunals, Ads, Editorial, and The Rise of the Heavy Hand...

Regarding Ad questions and Editorial:

As some of you may have noticed, the header and footer of the site have been updated. For a brief moment they were displaying ads, but that has been disabled.

You may need to clear your browser's cache in order for these changes to display properly for you.

The new header/footer on the site is in preparation for the new editorial news system that TG will be bringing online in the next few days.

TG will have a complete editorial staff that will be focused on news/achievements/events relating to competitive video game playing, and will carry a distinct voice and perspective on the subject.

The editorial experience of TG will be economically supported in part by on site ad placement.
The submission and adjudicative experience of TG will not have on site ad placement.

We are excited about the upcoming addition of editorial and we look forward to the increased TG presence it will build.

Regarding the Tribunal function and site moderation:

The level of ongoing toxicity that seems to continue to permeate the community has not settled down to acceptable levels despite TG allowing a 3 year time period for it to naturally do so.

Therefore, Twin Galaxies administration has decided that it is now time to retire the member tribunal function and replace it with direct and heavy administrative moderation.

While the Tribunal system has been successful in many regards, the slow nature of its ability to apply moderation control allows for too much pollutive noise to exist on the site for too long a period before things escalate high enough for it to perform its function - and this has resulted in an unacceptable amount of negative initial experiences for new members coming into the environment.

So effective immediately, Twin Galaxies has moved to an admin-only moderation modality.

Furthermore, admin has been instructed to utilize a heavy hand in its application of warnings, thread/comment deletions, suspensions and bans - all of which are purely at the discretion of admin's judgement.

Admin is under no obligation to issue a warning of any kind before taking action. Again, this is all at admin's discretion.

The overall goal is to ensure a safe and family friendly environment for all Twin Galaxies members to participate securely within. We are going to strongly discourage toxic behavior and reward more positive interaction.

We are aware that some members may disappointed with these policy and site changes, however after much thought and discussion we feel strongly that this is the right management direction for Twin Galaxies as it continues to grow.

Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter.

All we know now is that the Tribunal process that we have been relying on for years is gone without a word of warning. It was not ideal, it was intentionally slowed down. Now it is not being used at all. We no longer have a collective voice, we can simply click the little teeny "report" button and hope it gets listened to.

We also are told that a heavy handed approach is being encouraged. Posts and people can be banned without warning.

Can they be permanently banned without warning at the discretion of a forum moderator?
There are no "forum moderators" that exist as a separate function. There is only full Admin.
People associated with Editorial do not have Admin privileges and only deal with Editorial concerns.

Considering the recent social media posts by people praising a new forum moderator that was going to "clean house" at TG, this is the most troubling news in the past 3 years. These same people hate Twin Galaxies and the members here. Some of them are disgruntled former members, some of them are delusional hateful people that call everyone here fascists and other names I dare not repeat.
The only valid source of information regarding what TG will or will not do is TG Admin and the Twin Galaxies site specifically. Anything else is just noise and speculation.

I get the whole "this should be family friendly". I wholeheartedly agree with that sentiment (a major reason I was against all those ads about dating websites).

If the rules will not be formally declared, then they are meaningless. A heavy hand will become a corrupted hand. Power corrupts, and attracts the corruptible.

Saying the rules are common sense and that everyone should walk on eggshells is not going to work. That does not take into account cultural differences in a global community. Some people are very argumentative but see that as joyful and fun debate. Others throw insults to hurt, others see it as simple jibes between friends or colleagues.
The rules are formally declared. They are here for your review. Please operate within them:

Are we doing a hard reset and moving forward from today? i.e. will everyone's past behavior be included as a reason for justifying a purge, or will the slates be wiped clean?
There is no purge. Further toxicity on this site will just simply no longer be tolerated.

oh, one corner case with things being family friendly. How does that factor into tracks that are not family friendly. Will they be grandfathered? Are we discouraged from making new tracks on adult only games?

@TWIN GALAXIES, could we have the TOS accessible via the "Info" link that is found at the top of each page? I get lost easily, but I can't find it there currently.

    ”That’s not TG”

Precisely why it’s a good thing. Finally a TG administration is taking a hard stance against whingers and stirrers. Tread lightly
TG will grow as a result. New members won’t be turned away as they are now.

No it's half man half bear-pig. If the bottom half was all pig, it'd be half man-bear half pig, and that's just not right :)

On a serious note, I like this. I however don't want people who are usually sarcastic/posting funny pictures/meme's that are in context with statements in pages be discouraged to do so. I like doing it, I know Marc likes doing it and it to be honest, while it may at times not add anything to the conversation, it does lighten the mood on some of these drama related topics.

Also, can this please, please, please be added the TG policies page? I've been stating it numerous times that the TG policies page needs updating. Things like what consoles, controllers, flash carts, cross overs are allowed and not allowed. There are so many things that are done but according to the policies shouldn't be allowed. This adds confusion to adjudicating if you ask me. I think the community knows these things, but it's taken me years to figure out what is and isn't allowed. I'm sure many feel the same. Add these new changes of admin being the law and what is allowed and wasn't in the forums also. I hope these restrictions are taken with a grain of salt. Some of us swear, some don't. Some get passionate, some don't care. It's a part of what makes the community what it is. So I hope there aren't to many quick bans thrown out. Personally, as long as there are no blatant personal attacks I could care less what is said. I do realize there may be kids, but lets be realistic, if they are searching the internet they are going to see worse than what is ever done or said on this website.

That's my 23 cents worth. Like the changes. Please update the policy page with these changes and all other things allowed/not allowed that aren't actually posted anywhere. Thanks.

While fun and jokes are most definitely welcome, we do not want Twin Galaxies to be a place for drama. That is what we are aiming to move away from.

In the last few months, we have received countless reported posts and messages from both new and old users who are turn away from the toxicity the site seems to be nurturing. We want the site to grow, but this will not happen by scaring away are new members.

hopefully by avoiding all the other drama it'll free up resources to spend more time catching cheating and doing something about it.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I actually totally quit posting on here due to the toxic nature of TG so it's so good to see this. It's way overdue!

Let's see TG progress now and turn into a great place to play games and set records. Not rude comments and drama.

Props to management for this change!
