TWIN GALAXIES

Rudy has been banned for forty-eight months. If he attempts to contact any Twin Galaxies administration before 6 January 2022 by any means or for any reason, the ban will instantly double in length. If we see evidence of him disparaging Twin Galaxies anywhere during this period the ban will instantly become permanent.

Our new moderation policy is not a joke and people are encouraged not to test it.
Toxicity is no longer tolerated at Twin Galaxies.

That’s too bad. I like having Rudy around. It’s too bad people cant just use the old fashioned technique of putting someone on “ignore” if they don’t like their content.

I agree with this decision. Rudy is/was my friend but saying people's mothers need to die is going too far. When he does crap like that it not only makes me cringe but I can't respect him for it either. This was the right choice, he needs to learn to play well with others.

Also, doing so makes the front page and wall look friendly and more inviting. I could see people getting drawn away seeing a guy frantically post on the front page about how everyone is inferior to them. I appreciate a lot of Rudy's accomplishments and what he has done with video games, but at the end of the day he was given another chance to play nice when the community lifted the ban. Not everyone gets a second chance and it's up to the person to learn from their mistakes. I am only hoping that after Rudy's ban is gone again that he learns from his mistakes. He does have a lot of knowledge on games that is important to this community.

Two years now! Oh this is great. Again, Rudy needs to learn it's not okay to make personal attacks, death threats, or saying he wishes people should die. I've never done any of those things yet I'm more hated by his worst enemies than he is. It goes to show if you want to get in people's heads there are better ways to go about it. I've told him time and time again that crap is not okay. The fact he went that route again really disappoints me. If he wants to be number one on the drama top ten list he needs to listen to the master of drama - me.

Not sure why exactly he was banned! I guess what broke the camels back and not to be repeated is inside information. Best guess is the spatterhouse thread. Had 100 notifications in less than a day.RIP Rudy. I will say insulting people on their wall or making wall posts to insult someone is a pretty crappy thing to do. At the end of the day I think he's just too over passionate.

I do not celebrate the need to dish out such bans to anyone, but I also appreciate how this shows TG's commitment to making this a more civil place.

Great sentiment but I would like to make a counterpoint. New members sign up and see these kinds of things without warning because they have no idea what they are getting into. They are immediately appalled at what they see on the site and wonder if the administration allows this then immediately decide this isn't the place for them and we lose a member.

I would like to assume that most adults that come to the website and see two people arguing (one a bit more tactfully than the other, but both with toxicity) probably just see it as two people arguing and ignore it? Maybe that’s just how I approach these sorts of things. I come to a place like Twin Galaxies because of the video games, not for the social interaction. If I see someone behaving in a way that I don’t like, I put them on “ignore”.

I’ve never been involved in any forum that doesn’t have some sort of arguing and bickering. I just immediately ignore any member that I don’t want to listen to.

Bill and Rudy have been arguing with each other on multiple threads for a while now. It’s not that hard to ignore them.

Ummmm....when I first read the above ban post by TG I thought it said he was banned for 6 months. Now it says he's banned for 24 months?

Pretty sure I saw the same thing... Maybe we're both in need of an eye exam but I'd like some answers.

As a general point - a community defines what sort of behavior is acceptable by what it allows. Offering up tools for individuals to filter and block is necessary, as there are always going to be people who don't get along, but that is not a replacement for the site itself setting a bar.

It's not hard to find other examples. Reddit went with a very hands off approach for a long time, insisting the individual subreddit moderation, voting, and blocking tools would be enough. That hands off approach allowed toxic communities to grow and spread, to the point where there was a lot of hateful and nasty behavior across the site. I don't know if Reddit has recovered, but I sure want nothing more to do with that place now.

Twitter also suffers from this. Allowing large scale harassment. White supremacists and ***** able to say some really nasty things to other people without consequences.

If TG allows toxic behavior to persist, just saying "block them", then it teaches others they too can be toxic. If such things spread, blocking stops being sufficient as whole groups of people start wielding influence over others. I think the only thing that's kept it from doing so here has been the small userbase. If TG grows significantly, and does nothing about toxic behavior, there's a real chance it'll get much worse. Especially with the state of the gaming community now.
