Look, Up In the Sky! Cloud9 Tied for First Place in the NA LCS

We're almost at the halfway point of the Spring Split for the North American League of Legends Championship Series, and while Echo Fox still sits on top of the leader board, they don't sit there alone anymore.

Four weeks down and we’ve seen some of the closest games ever in the NA LCS. Cloud9 currently sits on top of the ladder, tied for first with Echo Fox, so let’s take a look at the players that wear the white and blue.

Eric “Licorice” Ritchie

A rookie to the NA LCS, Licorice has already proven that he has what it takes to go head to head with the big names. Honing his skills in the Challenger scene, Licorice plays an aggressive style of top laner, preferring to be the one making the moves, not reacting to them. Managing to amass an impressive stat line, Licorice has also taken down some big targets, only losing to Echo Fox’s top laner Heo “Huni” Seung-hoon and having yet to face TSM’s top laner Kevin “Hauntzer” Yarnell. With every other team already under his belt, Licorice doesn’t have a lot left to prove in terms of skill.

Dennis “Svenskeren” Johnsen

No stranger to the intricacies of the NA LCS, Svenskeren was the former jungler for TSM, and the success he achieved there only made him a better player. A methodical jungler, Svenskeren is more than capable of predicting how his opponents will act, allowing him to ambush them where they least expect it while also making sure that he is close by to support his teammates. His playmaking have helped Cloud9 rise to the top of the ladder, and the only thing standing in his way are Echo Fox and his former teammates on TSM.

Nicolaj “Jensen” Jensen

Forever the bridesmaid, never the bride, Jensen has been in the running for NA LCS MVP ever since he arrived in 2015. A flashy player, Jensen is quite comfortable making moves on assassin champions, while also demonstrating mastery of the more control orientated ones too. Constantly putting up big numbers, Jensen has yet to have a negative KDA this split, even managing a 4.0 when Cloud9 lost to Echo Fox. With perhaps his biggest rival ahead of him in TSM’s Søren "Bjergsen" Bjerg, Jensen will be looking to establish once and for all that he is the dominant mid laner in the NA LCS.

Zachary “Sneaky” Scuderi

The longest standing member of Cloud9 and the last of the original line-up, Sneaky enjoys one of the largest fan bases in the NA LCS. An extremely talented AD Carry, Sneaky has shown time and again that when the going gets tough, he gets going. With a taste for champions that can destroy entire teams, Sneaky has shown an ability to weather even the toughest of storms in lane and still turn around and carry the games himself. With the AD Carry slot so hotly contested in the NA LCS, Sneaky looks to prove that he is the best, even after all this time.

Andy “Smoothie” Ta

We’ve talked about Smoothie before, and for good reason. With a marked improvement in skill over previous seasons, as well as demonstrating that he is capable of making the calls that guide his team to victory, Smoothie has very quickly come to be one of the more exciting players to watch in the NA LCS. His mechanical displays on playmaking champions have earned him respect and fear on the battlefield, and it has quickly become apparent that as soon as he leaves lane, the enemy better watch out. Having led his team to victory so many times already this split, is it time for the NA LCS to cool down with a Smoothie?

With two teams tied for first place, the game gets very interesting. Which team will ultimately prove to be the stronger of the two, and which team will have to content with the rest of the pack?
