After five weeks of hard fought games, we now have a three way tie for first. Let's take a look at the teams that currently hold the top spot in the European League of Legends Championship Series.

Who would have thought that after three long weeks of competition, we would be looking at a three way tie for first between G2 Esports, Team Vitality, and Fnatic. Let’s take a look at these three teams, and see how they got to this point.

G2 Esports

Now in their third year of the EU LCS, G2 have consistently found their way to the top of the ladder. Comprised of Martin “Wunder” Hansen in the top lane, Marcin “Jankos” Jankowski in the jungle, Luka “Perkz” Perkovi? in the mid lane, Petter “Hjarnan” Freyschuss as AD Carry, and Kim “Wadid” Bae-in as support, G2 have achieved their seven and three record losing to Roccat, Giants and Fnatic, though they haven’t lost a game since week two. With an aggressive playstyle tailored for star mid laner Perkz to get ahead and carry from the mid lane, G2 look to claim revenge upon Fnatic and prove that they are the true kings of Europe.

Fnatic

Fnatic is one of the oldest teams to still be relevant in modern League of Legends, with their history including winning the very first World Championship back in 2011. Having been in the EU LCS since its inception, Fnatic have remained one of the best, if not the top team, every single split. While their roster may have changed since the early days, the current line-up of Paul “sOAZ” Boyer in the top lane, Mads “Broxah” Brock-Pedersen in the jungle, Rasmus “Caps” Winther in the mid lane, Martin “Rekkles” Larsson as AD Carry, and Zdravets “Hylissang” Iliev Galabov as support, have once again proven to be strong contenders as they climb the ladder. Their seven and three record features losses to Misfits, Vitality and H2K, though they have not lost a game since day one of week five. Long-time bearers of the crown as “Kings of Europe”, Fnatic look to cement their place as the dominant organization in the EU LCS.

Vitality

Also in their third year of the EU LCS, Vitality have bounced between the top and bottom of the ladder in most of their splits thus far. Their new line-up of Lucas "Cabochard " Simon-Meslet in the top lane, Erberk "Gilius" Demir in the jungle, Daniele "Jiizuke" di Mauro in the mid lane, AD Carry Amadeu "Minitroupax" Carvalho, and Jakub "Jactroll" Skurzy?ski as support, have done well so far, seizing an early lead over the other teams in the EU LCS. Unfortunately, no-one can live at the top forever, and a shocking week five that saw Vitality gain zero wins, has let other teams catch up. Vitality’s losses include Misfits, G2 and H2K. Their games have shown that they are capable of taking down the other top teams in the EU LCS, though whether this was a freak upset week, or the beginning of a trend, remains to be seen.

With all three of these teams holding the same match record, another interesting piece of information has emerged. Vitality has beaten Fnatic, and lost to G2, while G2 has beaten Vitality and lost to Fnatic, and finally Fnatic have beaten G2 and lost to Vitality, making the three way tie even closer than it might look. Will these teams be able to hold onto their spots, and if not, which teams will be pushed aside in the coming weeks, as the EU LCS look to crown a new set of “Kings of Europe”.
