One of the baddest men in fighting game history, Sanford Kelly, shows exactly why he's one of the kings of the Marvel vs. Capcom 2 realm with this incredible display of execution!

Sanford Kelly is renowned for being one of the pioneers of the fighting game community (FGC) as well as one of the strongest Marvel vs. Capcom 2 players on the planet. His trademark team consisted of Storm, Sentinel, and Captain Commando (called “Team Santhrax” amongst key members of the FGC.) That being said, it shouldn’t surprise anyone that he would have a strong Cable in his back pocket to pull out during longer sets. Such an example took place during the Versus 2018 tournament series, which consisted of only Marvel series games: Marvel vs. Capcom 2, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, and Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite.

During an afterhours Marvel 2 session titled, “Battle of the Gods,” renowned players FOX|Justin Wong, Michael “IFC|Yipes” Mendoza, and Sanford “AD|EMP|Santhrax” Kelly did battle against one another in the game that initially put them all on the map. The highlighted encounter happens about a third of the way through the exhibition, in which Sanford, using Sentinel/Cable/Captain Commando, battles Yipes, who is also using Sanford’s trademark team. Sanford is able to catch Yipes’ Captain Commando after an unsafe Delayed Hyper Combo (DHC) from his nearly-dead Sentinel, and pulls off an amazing combo that even had Yipes acknowledging its awesomeness.

Sanford is able to combo a raw tag into Sentinel off of Cable’s standing Hard Punch, then target that into a “snapback,” which forces Yipes’ heavily-damaged Sentinel back into the field of battle. Needless to say, Sentinel’s next appearance would be his last, and Sanford would ultimately take the round after bringing Yipes down to only his Captain Commando, a dismal fate we’ve discussed a bit more at length during our Life of a Low-Tier Hero series.

The entire 1 and a half hour long set is nothing short of ecstasy for Marvel and fighting game fans alike, and will be sure to provide excitement and hype for anyone who sits down and watches it.

If you love Marvel 2 or another fighting game but can’t find anyone to play with, why not start your own scene? Learn how using our awesome guide featuring members of the New Jersey fighting game community!
