Some of the biggest highlights of the recent CGEUK were
Nick Hutt's Space Harrier world record and Tony Temple's run on the Missile Command mark.
Hutt achieved 35,774,740 points on Space Harrier, eclipsing the 31,900,730 point record set by Matthew Preece on November 24, 1985.
"Though Tony didn't break the record on Missile Command, its only a matter of numbers now," says Twin Galaxies' Walter Day. "Tony has honed his MC skills and will definitely break the world record; its just a matter of playing the game enough times before he hits paydirt and breaks the 1,695,250 point record."
Surrounded by a large crowd including reporters and film crews, Temple kept his focus fixed on the game, breaking his prior personal best of 1.4 million points, taking more than one hour of non-stop play to reach 1,539,150 points.
"Nick and Tony's successes have really put the UK on the map in the classic gaming world," says Chris and Christine Millard, co-founders of the CGEUK.
Next year's CGEUK is scheduled for the weekend of July 29-30, 2006. |
