Twin Galaxies and Ottumwa, Iowa are remembered as "Video Game Capital of the World" in Sundance Documentary
Park City, UT - January 22, 2007 -- This 90-minute documentary appearing at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival remembers the great moment when 16 young video game superstars gathered at the Twin Galaxies Arcade in Ottumwa, Iowa for a photo shoot with LIFE Magazine. The resulting photo (shown above) is possibly the most famous photo in gaming history.
"Chasing Ghosts," one off 16 entries in this year's documentary category, takes us back to Ottumwa, Iowa, the city still famous in gaming history as the "Video Game Capital of the World." From the moment the photo was snapped on November 7, 1982, these top players were destined for fame. Today, this crop of gamers is now recognized as history's first serious gamers. "Chasing Ghosts" follows the lives of many of these superstars from the time they left Ottumwa in 1982 onward to the present time.
