New Donkey Kong World Record

Steve Wiebe of Redmond, WA scores 1,049,100 on Donkey Kong to become new world champion

Fairfield, Iowa -- March 23, 2007 -- Steve Wiebe is the new world champion on Donkey Kong. Published below ia a brief recap of some important points copied from the referee reports on Steve Wiebe's Donkey Kong score of 1,049,100 points.

The referees supplied an exhaustive analysis of the game play, in addition to verifying the cabinet, the boardset, the harness and the joystick.
In the video, the board is clearly marked TKG4 which is the original DK boardset. In dealing with potential controversies, the referees noted that the gap in the taping at the beginning is made up for by the uncut, seamless footage at the end of the tape that shows the boardset. Also, there was one blip in the video footage. But it was possible to review it, frame by frame, and hear and or see the screen (even distorted) during the entire episode that lasted less than 1 second. The end of the tape shows additional footage of a replay of the footage shown on a TV where the blip does not occur. Even without this additional footage, the referee was content that nothing unusual happened during the event..

One referee noted a number of occurences where the final rivit screen was point-pressed until the bonus counter read 000. In separate trials, the referee was able to duplicate these strategies in their own gameplay, thereby proving that the strategies were genuine and not the result of an illegally altered.boardset. In another test, a referee analyzed the points collected for each hammer hit, jump or other point-earning phenomenon, and concluded that the normal amount of points were being received for each action in the game play.

Because the Twin Galaxies Board of Referees have recommended the acceptance of this high score as the new world record on Donkey Kong, Walter Day, Chief Scorekeeper for Twin Galaxies, has entered this score into the online database and has declared this record approved.
