Trevor Seguin has managed to tie his rival, Scott Kessler and manage to grab the elusive Holy Grail time on the Legendary Nes title, Super Mario Bros.
Several years ago when Console Speedrunning was in its infancy, no one would've ever dreamed that something like this would've been possible. Three years ago when Super Mario Bros. was beginning to get hot, under 6 minutes was never dreamed of. Then Scott Kessler nailed a 5m14s and the rumblings began. With that, there spawned a 5m13s run and more speculation on just how far it could go down from there. Trevor Seguin then popped onto the scene and took it down to the 5m10s mark and then at Christmas time of 2006, down to 5m09s.
Scott Kessler took it down a short while later to 5m08s, but Trevor has fought back and managed to join Scott to drink from this Holy Grail of times of 5m08s.
Can it go down further? There's speculation that there may yet be a way to eke out 1 tiny second out of this game, via the Twin Galaxies Tournament settings... but if there's anyone that's going to be able to show this possible... ;)
And watch out boys, for the other guy hunting for that coveted 5:08, Andrew Gardikis! He's just 1 second away from you with a 5:09 and hungry for that 1 second difference too!
Congratulations to Trevor Seguin for reaching the Holy Grail! Drink up mate, you've deserved it :)
Not too shabby for a 22 year old game that helped Nintendo launch a console, a franchise and a Legend! |
