BREAKING NEWS - NEW WR POINTS RECORD FOR "Dr. Mario" (NES)

It's one of those things that you're never too surprised to hear about, and in this case, you're definitely not going to be surprised. It is with my sad and solemn duty that I must inform you all that Ninjas have kidnapped... Dr. Mario! Well, alright, I guess that's a bit of a shock actually ^^;; But yeah, he got kidnapped while he was at a Medical convention discussing about his new revelation of splitting Magic Mushrooms into smaller pieces and using their properties of enlargement on a more microscopic level. [Kind of a neat idea really, make the virus enlarge and then kick its butt with an enlarged antidote.] Apparently, the lights went out in the conference room and loud noises were heard from the stage, and when the lights came on, the last ninja was seen throwing a smoke bomb down and escaping, leaving a note pinned to the microphone.
Princess Toadstool,
Your precious Mario is now in my clutches! Unless you
give over your entire kingdom to me, he will be dead within the day. Just to
make sure you won't try being a hero, I've stolen some of Mario's sliced
Magic Mushrooms and one of my henchmen is now at your precious lab, using
them on petri dishes. Save your kindgom or save the one you love... but we
all know what you'll do. Try and send someone else to be the hero and Mario
and the rescuer will die together.
Bowser
It was at this time, that a newcomer to Dr. Mario's lab, Ohio's own Adam Sweeney, had checked in and was chatting with the Princess when a call came in from Toad about the kidnapping. As Princess Toadstool hung up the phone and tried to wipe the tears from her eyes, the sounds of glass shattering came from a room a short distance away, followed by the sounds of evil chuckling. Adam and the Princess ran to the room, only to be met by enlarged versions of virii, Yellow, Red and Blue, that Mario had been testing medicine on. Adam glared at the ugly virii as they began to toss more fragments of Magic Mushrooms on
other petri dishes, bringing their brethren to literally new heights.
"What a horrible day for you to have come by for your internship Adam.. with Mario kidnapped, Luigi off in Ice Land on a plumbing mission and Toad still in Desert Land where the convention was, it looks like I'm going to have to give Bowser my kingdom, and try and kill these virii."
"But Princess, how do you know Bowser will free Mario even if you do give him your kingdom? And how do we tackle these virii? We're going to need huge doses of medicine to kill them off!" Adam replied, as they began to back up into the hallway.
"That's it Adam! Mario had a small jar locked in a cabinet in his office with more Magic Mushrooms in it! If we can get to them, we can use it on the medication and be able to fight back!"
And so the mad dash began, Adam following Princess Toadstool to the office and helping in jimmying open the lock. At last the small jar was theirs and they immediately started tossing the mushrooms on all the medication they could find on the shelves and desk. After a few moments the room was filled with jumbo sized pills, and Adam and the Princess wiped the sweat off their brows and prepared their next move. Unfortunately, their break was short lived as a pair of Red virii pushed down the door. Without thinking, Adam grabbed a nearby Red pill and threw it at the pair, causing them and the pill to dissapear in a puff
of smoke.
"Woah! All too easy!" Adam shouted out as he kicked a Blue pill at a Blue virus that foolishly looked in and tried to run.
"Way to go Adam! I don't know how many virii they managed to enlarge, but I found another jar of Magic Mushrooms and pills in an unlocked cabinet, so we're safe for a long while," Princess Toadstool replied, as she showed the jar and pills.
Adam walked over to the door and looked down the long corridor and watched as the virii began to come at a slow, uneven and disorganized march, still a fair distance away. Running back into the office, he grabbed a few more pills and ran back out, preparing a small stockade.
"Princess, there's a lot of virii out there, but they're more disorganized then anything, so I think they're going to be easy pickings. Go.. go off and rescue Mario now. Bowser will NEVER expect you to come while these pests are here, and I can handle these, no problem. After all, there's still more pills and Magic Mushrooms left," Adam said as he began tossing more pills down the hallway, more to stop the virii from advancing then anything else.
"I can't though.. what if you're hurt.. or they infect you.. or.. or.."
"I'll be fine.. honest. The exit's right next to us and these virii won't survive long enough to even get close."
"I can't thank you enough for this chance Adam.."
"Then go, and save the day!" Adam shouted as Princess Toadstool finally escaped the office and made her way to Bowser's castle in Dark Land.

A huge parapet looms ominously in the darkened horizons as a maniacal laughter is heard from within. A closer look inside shows an open window with a bit of candle light and Bowser pacing back in forth in front of a battered Mario, who lays on a bed, bound and gagged.
"Face it Mario, you've grown to soft by becoming a doctor. The old Mario would never have been captured by my Ninja Koopas, but now... This is going to be my shining moment... the day the Princess gave me the kingdom. Oh, but I see you're trying to protest.. don't worry. As my first act as king of the Mushroom Kingdom, I'll ensure you will be the very first person executed, and in front of your friends no less... HAHAHAHA! And to think.. there's no one who can save you now, lest the Mushroom Kingdom fall to the virii you were treating. But enough of my gloating, you'll hear more later on the chopping block. For now, it's time to gather all my troops and family together for a celebration of epic proportions."
With that, Bowser turned about and left the room, ignoring the protests and struggles of our hero.

Back in the lab, Adam had turned on the local radio for some music to chillto and was laughing as virus after virus succumbed, Adam ran back into the office after tossing Two at once and came wheeling back out on a nice leather chair, lobbing off another pill before he did a 360.
"And take that one too! You virii are no match for the medication and I'm prescribing you all a huge dose. Give up now! I've already defeated 5 waves of you and I have no intentions of stopping! And the next ones to make a move for the windows to taunt me outside from the trees will get a double dosage!"

Princess Toadstool climbed out of the nearby warp pipe and brushed off her dress as best she could before surveying her surroundings. Thanks to Two Whistles from her castles treasury, she was able to use the secret warp zone pipes and transfer herself to Dark Land in record time. She wasn't sure what she was going to do when she got to the tower, and was still worried about Adam, but she knew she had to go on. It was at that point that she noticed that the tanks and airship that usually patrolled the area were turning around and all seemed to be heading for the palace. Making haste, she ran towards the closest tank and hopped on the end, trying to tuck herself into the shadows as she planned her next move knowing that she'd be at the front door in a short time.

Deep inside Bowser's castle, sounds of loud cheers erupted as Bowser, his children and their minions raised their glasses high, and cheered the downfall of their enemy. The banquet hall was almost completely filled, with only some space left. A group of Koopa Troopa in chefs hats marched in and placed bountiful dishes on the table, the stream seemingly endless. After a few moments the stream did indeed end and the chefs took their place at the end of the table.
"Though it saddens me that it took us all too long, our enemy will finally die tomorrow! The rest of our friends are just pulling up in the tanks now, but since they're not here now... DIG IN!" Bowser shouted after his small speech concluded. Everyone began grabbing at dishes here and there and heaping their plates as full as they could, knowing that such days did not come so often.

Back at the lab, the virii kept up their march, their numbers beginning to grow and their organizaton improving by leaps and bounds. Adam took a very quick breather before he set off a huge chain of pills onto the unsuspecting virii, killing off a great number of them at once. Wiping his brow off, he noticed a small break in the action before what seemed to be the Thirteenth wave, began to start coming up.

Princess Toadstool hastily climbed the chain in front of her, pulling herself up to the upper deck of the docked airship, still floating casually beside the castle. She watched as the last guard climbed down to the lower decks before feeling safe enough to walk freely. She had heard the guards casually joking about hopping into the nearby open window and roughing up the captured prisoner who had been brought in, but stopped short of doing so, one guard declaring the beating they would get would not be worth joining the prisoner in the execution the next day. Princess Toadstool finally came within easy jumping distance of the window and carefully looked down below to see if anyone would be looking up before taking a deep breath and jumping through the window. As she landed, Mario woke up from his light sleep and stared in disbelief.
Before he could utter even the barest of muffled noises, Princess Toadstool looked over to him and cringed.
"Mario!" She began, in hushed tones. "I can't believe they did this to you! Give me a moment and I'll have those ropes and gag off you."
A moment later and Mario was free, stretching as best he could despite his bruising, before being hugged gently by Princess Toadstool.
"Mamma Mia Princess! I never-a expected this! What-a 'bout the lab?!"
"Shhh. It's alright Mario, it's in safe hands with the new intern who came by today. He's battling the virii that were enlarged with Magic Mushrooms, but despite him having no troubles when I left, I'm still worried due to the sheer number of them."
"Then-a we need to get-a back right away! But we're-a long way from the warp zone pipes!"
"Do you think you can fly Mario?"
"I think-a I can.. but we don't-a have enough-a room to take off."
"Oh yes we do! I brought along Two pairs of P-Wings for our escape. I'll help slip a pair on you and we'll fly off to the warp zone and get back to the lab. I don't think anyone will know you're gone with the way I heard the guards on the airship talking.
And with that, Princess Toadstool donned her P-Wings and helped Mario with his and guided him to the warp zone. With a quick blow of the whistles, they were warping back at rapid pace to a warp pipe nearby the lab in the Mushroom Kingdom.

Back in the labs, Adam is having troubles as the virii start coming at him alot faster then before.
"Augh, I don't know how much longer I can fight you scum off! Ninenteen long waves of you and you're finally smart enough to propose big problems. But I gotta keep going... for the Princess.. for the Kiingdom..."
"Alright-a virii! You're-a goin' down! Let's-a go!"
"What the..."
With that, much to Adam's surprise, Mario and Princess Toadstool ran in from the exit beside him and began to pelt the remaining virii with a steady stream of medication until only a few remained. Mario grabbed a nearby fire hose and lassoed the remaining ones together as tight as he could.
"So you're-a the one who stayed-a back so the Princess could come and-a rescue me. What'sa your name?"
"Adam Sweeney, Doc, and thanks. It looks like there weren't more, but if it wasn't for you, I'd be a goner."
"Well-a you did wonderful! You have definitely earned a place on-a our team with-a the others. But-a now, I don't mean to be-a rude, but I think we gotta make a special delivery to-a Bowser."
"Yes Mario, we definitely do. Adam, would you mind staying here for a short while more?"
"No problem your Princess, I need to take a breather."

"BOWSER! HE'S ESCAPED! MARIO'S ESCAPED!"
"Impossible! The Princess would never have dared to rescue him or send someone else in her place!"
"It's... achoo! Worse than that! While he wasn't there, there were Five of those enlarged viruses from the lab and they're running all around the castle infecting everyo..achoo!!!"

And there you have it folks :) Mario saved by PRINCESS TOADSTOOL! And Adam Sweeney went on a virus destroying rampage! His final total of absolute decimation before being overcome with the little buggers? An astounding new WR High of 221,400 points! And who said combatting a cold or flu couldn't be fun. :)
