Agreed.
TGTS has always been 5 lives to the best of my knowledge, so something does indeed sound misunderstood.

Hi guys, I can shed light.
STARGATE and DEFENDER TGTS(5 man only) settings were NOT tracked back in the day. Only marathon settings...
TGTS(5 man only) STARGATE was not tracked until around 2001.
These two new TGTS(5 man only) Stargate and Defender records both only eclipse recent 2001 and later submissions.
on to marathon settings back in the day...
Weather a marathon game back in the day was started with 3 or 7(2 credit) men doesn't really matter as any good Stargate player will build up tons of extra ships like Asteroids marathoners. These games end usually in exhaustion and the player voluntarily quits the game rather then running out of lives.
STARGATE marathon settings are identical to factory settings.
1 credit (3 ships) / extra lives at 10,000 / warp limit wave 10 / difficulty = factory settings.
hope this clears things up a little.

I don't even see a listing for Defender or Stargate TGTS with 2001 and later dates only. Those new scores had scores from 1985.Quote:

From what I can recall, the specific settings for TGTS were not very specific on the Twin Galaxies website until mid 2005. Before that I only remember seeing a general statement for arcade games that you were to play with 5 start units on level 9 and no extras. I believe that I read this in Walter's first book. The settings from the 86 masters tourney can be found here
https://www.twingalaxies.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=7384
It specifies 3 start ships, no bonus ships, and difficulty #5, and no warps past wave 10 for Stargate. (It also lists settings for Defender that are easier and harder than TGTS.)
If the Stargate settings are the same settings that SLH played under during the 84' masters tourney then it would make sense to set up a separate track for games played under those settings and to not include his score in the TGTS track for 5 ships. This would be a fair way to handle it to give him credit for the world class gameplay he did BITD. It would also give newer players a chance to match up directly against his older score.
Other games have had special tracks set up. For example centipede 3 minute, donkey kong no hammer. Strike force bowling has a billion tracks, so why not add one more for Stargate since it appears possible that his score was done on more difficult settings than TGTS.
SLH - Do you have any documentation from the 84' tourney that you can share to support this?
Bill J.
He doesnt but I do.
My roomate Mike Munoz who also holds some records
kept the sheets that were handed out back then.
If needed I can make some copies and send them in or
scan them in and post them.
I was unaware of the 3-man only tournaments that went on in the 80's. Yup... that adds a new twist to the tracking of this title indeed.
If Scott can do 194,000 3-man only BITD... then he should start submitting for 5-man only now. we could use the competition and personally I would love to see other worthy Stargate players come back to the scene. Are any Stargate players going to Fun Spot XI? I'll be there and looking for good players to compete against.
Eric Liddell
Stargate #3 TGTS.
I'm going to try and attend my first funspot event.
I will give you some fun in defender, robotron and
stargate. I'm attempting a record in all three. I'm
also challenging the current wr on defender as I and
many others dont believe that it is possible. I did get
a 264k in defender so far. 840k in robotron and havent
pulled out the stargate in storage yet to practice.
