Best 1st-Life Arcade/MAME Game Starts Ever
Hello fellow gamers:
In light of the recent 4.8M "Mario Brothers" performance by Stephen Boyer and the accompanying 2.69M 1st life start, I thought I'd ask what gamers feel were the all-time best starts that they have ever seen.
Here are a few that I am personally aware of which immediately come to mind, and I'll start with Stephen's. However I am ignoring titles with finite conclusions where the optimal score is achieved on the first life...obviously that includes "Pacman" and also "Trog" and several others.
edit (11/08/15) - to clarify, my intent is for marathonable titles only and not to include those titles with finite completion either due to a final stage ("Donkey Kong", "Pacman") or a kill screen situation ("Dig Dug").
Mario Brothers (2.69M by Stephen Boyer in 2015) - obviously this is one for the books as it just about beat the former WR from several years back !!
BalCube (1.9M by Martin Bedard in 2008) - Martin did this as part of a MAME decathlon and immediately killed the game afterwards...I wonder how much he could have reached had he continued ?
Bombjack - (3.88M by Paul Kearns in ??) - one of my favourite and fun titles to play, Paul reached stage 40 before dying.
Galaga (5.6M by Jose Ramis in 2015) - just received confirmation of a massive score that beat Stephen Krogman's long-standing personal best of 4.5M on his first life. I guess there's a new "Galaga King" in town !!
Omega Race (4-5M by unknown in 1981-1982) - this was done by a high school classmate of mine nearby where I went to school. I have NO idea how high he eventually reached as we had left and he was still going at it. To this day I have never seen or heard of anyone who totally PWNED that title as that kid that I watched back in the day.
Q*Bert (1.5M by George Leutz in 2012) - it was hard to tell from the vantage point from George's YouTube link but it appeared to be around 1.5 million which, by itself, was nearly the former 2.2 million TGTS WR !!
Tapper (1.9M by Greg Erway in 2005) - lost in history with Greg's TGTS record is just how high he reached on his 1st life. I happen to remember this one quite well as I officiated it.
Timber (2.5M by Martin Bedard) - can't remember the TG MAME Decathlon year but if memory serves Martin hit 2.5M on his first life and gave it up
Tron (8M+ by Donald Hayes) - I just confirmed with Don Hayes that when he got this score he passed the then-WR on his 1st life
I am sure that there are many others that I am unaware of. Anyone care to share ?
