Yep. Damn, hate? We are on different sides of the spectrum here. They're in my top 5 all-time. The album I'm playing here, "Vulgar Display of Power" is a masterpiece of metal, in my opinion. The rest of their 90's albums can't compare to it, but they're still damn good. Their 80's stuff shall not be talked about..LOL (They were a cheesy glam band)Quote:

Hey, it's my submission..let the derailment continue :D "Cowboys From Hell" is from 1990. That's the album that really started their transition to heavy metal. I'm not a big fan of it, as half the album has Rob Halford-like high pitch singing...which is annoying. I can actually see people not liking the album, mostly for the high pitch songs, but even the rest of the songs aren't that hardcore. Starting with "Vulgar Display of Power" though, it was totally "on", and they got more hardcore with each album. I'm on the same side as you regarding Metallica's stuff past the 80's. It sucks. Way too commercial. But it's interesting you mentioned them - Pantera were big fans of Metallica. When that piece of crap "Black Album" came out, they were so annoyed by it, that it actually made them make VDoP more hardcore than they intended. They saw that the musical-gap that Metallica left needed to be filled, so they upped their game. I've never heard Pantera's music referred to as "cheesy" before, but it's personal taste.
