yes, I know, but with his marathoning skills I am sure he can make it be 11 hrs. :P of course if he can work around the bug.Quote:

Here are some games that I have found special rules and special notes made for the specific title to make game play fairer to all. Or to put to rest a technique or style of play that states the rules that you will allow or dissallow.
Crystal Castles.
Special Rules: While all warping is permitted, players are not allowed to use warps unlocked by another player's gaming efforts. You may only use a warp unlocked from a previous gaming attempt if you, yourself, were the gamer who unlocked the warp possibility.
So in this game you can continue from a previous game also by inserting another quarter and continue playing.
Vs. Super Mario Bros.
Special Rules: Your scoring attempts ends when either you die for a 5th time, or you manage to Defeat Bowser and Save the Princess at the end of 8-4, thus beating the game. The Turtle Stair Hop trick is banned and use of it will result in IMMEDIATE disqualification of your score, accidental or not. [This also would include the use of a single enemy to get increasingly larger amounts of points by repeatedly jumping on it] Waiting to grab the Golden Axe, at the end of every Bowser level until the LAST POSSIBLE SECOND, causing the timer to revert to 999 is BANNED and use of it will result in IMMEDIATE disqualification! Use of the Wall-Jump tactic is NOT allowed! You MUST access the Underwater area of 8-4 by using the pipe across the lava pit. Doubling back and using the pipe before the pit to do so will equal Disqualification. Use of ANY Pipe to go somewhere different then the programmers intended is BANNED! Warping IS permitted!
Just showing that rules are made along the way to create fair play among players.
Asteroids
Special Note: The TG board of directors has agreed that the technique of shooting down back-to-back command ships at the end of each stage has been deemed legally permissible and is not considered 'point scrabbing', after much consideration. This confirmation of TG's stance on this decision is dated 7/19/02.
Tempest.
Special Rules: You may start your game from from any available Wave, 1 to 81.
Only way to be able to do this is to continue play by inserting another coin, and using the warp from previous play.
Donkey Kong.
I don't even want to get into this can of worms.
These special notes and rules are made for what reasons? To protect the players of the past and present, to make an equal playing field for all. Sometimes code is dissasembled and the results are presented to TG or others and a ruling is made for that game. As records progress on a game sometimes it's found that there is a bug in the gameplay. A special rule is made for this bug in the code and we move forward. Well a bug had been documented in the code of Robotron and I'm asking that a rule be made to make this game fair for everyone to play and go for the record.
These are just some of the samples that I have found throughout my searching on the database that have special rules set up for a specific game.
are you sure it's random? Although not proven, it was theorized it was from a shot on an enforcer shot just as you get hit with their shot at a certain location on the screen...very bottom row...so you just avoid the bottom row as much as you can...which you already do most of the time as you try and stay 1 level from edge of screen for greatest effectiveness and survival. :PQuote:

And I too question the posted Marathon scores, especially after TG has promised to investigate the documentation of said scores on about the most important competative arcade game of all time and come up with nothing substantial over a year later. Personally I ignore the Marathon scores and look to Tournament as to who the actual best Robotron players are.
I will rehash my comments from the above thread that you quoted...
I have a number of Wolf INPs with crashes if Don or someone can figure out how to analyze WOLF inps
In my experience, _EVERY_ crash I've seen on blue label ROMs is an Enforcer shot on the left or right side, 1-3 inches above the bottom or below the top.
Thinking more about it, I do recall some of the shots not being diagonals.
e.g. Avoid shooting enforcers in the * danger zones, and you will likely avoid the reset
Code:------------------------------

If you (or anyone else) can provide an .INP with the crash from a recent version of regular MAME, (not wolfMAME), I should be able to figure out what is causing the reset.Quote:

Don Hodges is here.
Thanks.
Hehe, I just switched to WolfMAME .141 to try and re-create the bug, but I guess I'll switch over toQuote:

instead.
I'll keep playing a few games a day and I'm sure I'll hit it again eventually.
Yay had it on my second game of attempting. Wave 16 on the right side shooting right and
down at the enforcer. Used mame106 not wolfmame106. Also probably need the included nvram.
Looking forward to some good information.
Thanx for doing this Don.
I would love to see how this all turns out. What platform do most of you play on? Do any of you have your own machine? I Love this game and always have. I'm still playing catch up on here and what i think i'm seeing is Tournament Style is no free-men and you start with 3 or 5 men. But i'm not totally getting what Marathon is? redelf i now see what you were talking about but i just don't remember that. out of all the games we played back then i don't remember anyone saying anything about it resetting. Does anyone know where a Robotron machine is in the Deep South?
