Any Pleiades players here?
Does anyone here play Pleiades/Pleiads, the sequel to Phoenix. Very underrated and cool game in my opinion.
The top score for this game in the TG database is 1.1 million by Patrick Orr. Next highest score in the database is 49k.
My top score is 216k on MARP and 196k on my own Pleiades machine, both scores using TG settings. There's another guy Doug Brewer who has a 196k score on MARP and claims to have scored 450k on a real machine (I believe him)
So, has anyone else an interest in the game? I'd be interested to hear people's opinions on the 1.1 million score, any other info on the game, discussion on strategies etc.
Used to have this at Fun Center USA, in Rapid City, SD in the heyday. It was fun. I miss it :(
I was lucky to make it through the first level

At Funspot...Not Bad !!
This was a fun title I played every now and then back in the day. Never got much good at it, but I'm fairly sure I reached a mere 50K, maybe 60K, at most.
Under-rated is correct. The game allows for several strategies and that sort of bonus stage (almost) where you guide the ship thru the field of flags is definitely interesting, and fun to navigate.
Your scores are very impressive...any chance you can send in a submission ? It's rare that TG has a good Pleides submission nowadays.
I played Pleiades once, just once. I got 7380. I believe I could have done better if I'd gotten to play again.
I got 8640 for a high score in Phoenix in 1990 down in Tulsa, OK. I haven't been able to find either game in over 10 years.
This game was featured in the Horror movie anthology Nightmares. It was the segment called The Bishop of Battle, starring a young Emilio Estevez. My avatar is an image of the Bishop of Battle.
Emilio plays a teenage video game hustler. He goes into arcades where he is not known to hustle money from other players. In the movie he hustles a guy out of around 20 bucks on Pleiades, and nearly gets his butt kicked for it.
All of his hustling was to earn the cash to feed his video game quest; getting to and beating the 13th level of The Bishop of Battle.
Rent the movie to see what happens when he does reach the 13th level!
Thanks for the tip. If there was ever a reason to rent this movie, THAT'S the reason !!
So, the 13th level is special...hmmm, now I gotta find out why.
Well, iy's a 12 year old thread, but what the hay!
I have just picked up and finished repairing a Pleiads PCB, what settings does everyone play on?
I have a dedicated Pleiads,and it´s a really fun game.
I´m not that good atit, only got 49k, but the weekend 27-28-01 Feb/March Kim (the danish guy who beat the Gyruss WR) will try to set a new WR on it :)
This will of course be streamed live on Twitch.tv
Hehe, didnt see the thread was 12 years old :D
Im using the TG settings:
Dip Switch Bank On CPU Board
1-4 = ON
5 = OFF
6-8 = OFF/UNUSED
Note: The above Dip Switches, are not only the FACTORY DEFAULT settings, but are also the correct Twin Galaxies Tournament Settings for this title and will provide the following settings;
3 Space Ships
Bonus Ship @ 3K & 30K
BUT, whit the above seting, my original PCB gives:
3 Space Ships
Bonus Ship @ 7K & ??K (only maneged to get 49K)
Dont know if you will get the same result.... can you confirm??

I like it. My best is around 300k. Probably 7k/70k. I've seen it set to 3k/30k and 6k/60k so it makes sense.
