    OutRun Arcade

    Just looking for a bit of info. i contacted Guinness world records about the W/R of outrun arcade, and found it was by Richard Jackson (USA) with a score of 52,897,690. but there's no info on what type of machine it was done on, like sitdown deluxe or stand up? also what setting was the board set to. ... like there are two ajustable settings in the arcade. time adjust and difficulty, and these can be set to 4 different settings each. easy, normal, hard, hardest. if you could find any info, or point me in the right direction. i want to be able to pactice with the right settings Etc..
    Thanks

    In the Twin Galaxies database it is as follows:

    Dip Switch Bank A:1-8 = OFFDip Switch Bank B:
    1-2 = OFF/OFF [Moving]
    1-2 = ON/OFF [Upright Cockpit]
    1-2 = OFF/ON [Mini Upright]
    3 = OFF
    4 = OFF/UNUSED
    5-8 = OFFNote: The above Dip Switches, are not only the FACTORY DEFAULT settings, but are also the correct Twin Galaxies Tournament Settings for this title and will provide the following settings;Time Adjustment: Normal
    Number of Enemy: Normal
    The leader board is here:

    Doesn't seem to state if it's an upright or sit down cabinet.

    Richard Jackson's Out Run arcade record has gone unchallenged for 30 years, which is far too long.

    It can definitely be surpassed (the top 2 MAME scores are both higher), so why not by you?

    The settings should be:

    • Time = Normal
    • Enemies = Normal

    To claim the record, you will need to complete the entire course in 4:45.00 or less, with at least 40.8 or 40.9 seconds remaining.

    You probably already know this, but Goal "D" is the recommended path ("Right => Left => Right => Right" at the forks):

    • Stage 1 = Coconut Beach
    • Stage 2 = Devil's Canyon
    • Stage 3 = Alps
    • Stage 4 = Wheat Field
    • Stage 5 = Autobahn

    It is the only route where the player can score 53 million points or higher, because of the opportunity to maximize the "time remaining" bonus (one million points per second).

    Each stage gives the player a fixed number of seconds, but the "extend times" are not equal (as shown below):

    Stage 1 (75 seconds) is obviously common to all routes.

    For each of the possible Stage 5 choices, the additional time awarded is the same (56 seconds).

    For Stages 2 through 4, there are two paths that give the player 187 seconds (the largest value):

    • Gateway (62) => Desert (60) => Wilderness (65)
    • Devil's Canyon (65) => Alps (60) => Wheat Field (62)

    The Goal "D" route is preferred because of Stage 2 and Stage 4. With precise execution, it is possible to maintain a speed of 293 km/hr from start to finish during "Devil's Canyon" and "Wheat Field", while "Gateway" and "Wilderness" both have unavoidable slowdowns.

    Good luck!

    I had my eye set on this record too but have been sideswiped by Daytona USA. My current best is also good for 5th on the leaderboard.

    Best of luck
