Cash for revs: Dragster 5.51 bounty bonanza

With regard to the Atari VCS Dragster dispute...

In his recent interview with Snowflake, Todd Rogers commented:

Well, like this guy here, he goes - err... QAOP Spaceman, he goes: ' We want more than three times in 35 years'. Did I really have any motivation to get it again, since 35 years ago? Is anybody paying me?
Well, if money is the motivation, let me put some where my fat mouth is.

Unnoticed by me, and perhaps some other people, money has been offered already.

User BlackFlag82 has put up $300 for a 5.51. Because the dispute thread has had so many posts, I missed it: http://www.twingalaxies.com/showthre...l=1#post917234

I'm happy to add an extra US$100 to this. With my income, this is not an inconsiderable amount for me. I put my faith in the laws of mathematics, but if anybody gets 5.51 I will happily eat humble pay and pay up.

So there is now $400 waiting for anyone who can manage a 5.51 on Dragster, following the conditions set out by BlackFlag82 in the post above.

Anyone else willing to throw in? We could get a nice big pot for anyone who can defy mathematics.

    Why not a sub-prize for 5.54 or 5.57 ? Maybe 50% for a 5.54 and 10% for a 5.57 ?

It looks like 5.57 has already been done: https://clips.twitch.tv/AbstemiousCo...teSamosaUnSane

    BlackFlag's original offer was for $300 for 5.51 and $100 for 5.54

It's the 5.51 one that really interests me, it has been the record for 35 years and was claimed to have been achieved no fewer than 3 times.

    But ok, I'll throw in $30 for a 5.54

    Running totals:
    5.54 $130
    5.51 $405.51

$405 and change for tying 5.51 on Dragster - is that all? You're missing about ten grand to make it really interesting.

Todd offered a $10,000 bounty for anyone who could get 5.51 back in 2011.

Now that's the kind of bounty that only a very confident gamer offers up and is not worried about paying out.

RTM REPLY - not necessarily. For those of you with long memories, remember the "bounty list" that Billy put up way back in 1999, or the "Donkey Kong" bounty offered at ACAM in May/05 ? I distinctly recall discussing each of these with him, and for one of these (I forget which), he had taken out a kind of "liability insurance" based on the likelihood of the payout. The exact details were not shared with me, but the mechanics were that these were not easy achievements so however he arranged for this, he did.

No way to know if Todd did same in 2011. I did not in 2004-2005. It's not so much the money as it is the difficulty of the challenge set forth.

Billy also had a $100,000 bounty for anyone who could clear the "split screen" in classic "Pacman"...needless to say that one went unclaimed.

Here's the original list, or rather a recap as stored on another gaming site, as I could not find the original poster associated...
