For the game Shadow Warriors on MAME, could the rules be updated to reflect changes in MAME's history, please.

Please update the rules to reflect the changes made in MAME.

Link to change in MAME https://adb.arcadeitalia.net/dettaglio_mame.php?game_name=jumpbug&arcade_only=0 &autosearch=1

Scroll down and click "Info"

Rules are currently

ROMSet: JumpBug

Cabinet: Upright

Difficulty?: Hard

Lives: 3

Special Rules: One [1] loop per area within a given stage is permitted - anything beyond that will invalidate the INP due to the TG policy on point-scrabbing/leeching.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Need to look like the following.

ROMSet: JumpBug

Cabinet: Upright

MAME 106-254 Difficulty = Hard

MAME 255 And Later Difficulty = Easy

(Difficulty settings in MAME were incorrect up to version 254. Difficulty Hard was actually Easy, this was fixed in version 255)

Lives: 3

Special Rules: One [1] loop per area within a given stage is permitted - anything beyond that will invalidate the INP due to the TG policy on point-scrabbing/leeching.

Greetings Admin!
Would it be possible to change the name of this track to "NTSC - Mt. Koji - Downhill [Fastest Completion]" ?
https://www.twingalaxies.com/game/cool-boarders-3/playstation/ntsc-rookie-mt-koji-fastest-completion/

There is already a couple submissions so idk if possible, but with its present wording I could do slalom, downhill, halfpipe, big air , Slope style, or boarder X and they should all be accepted under the current title because it doesn't specify the downhill track.

If they're pre-TGSAP records, I would take a look at this link about linking pre-2014 records with your account:

I should not be getting emails about anything occurring on the dev instance of the site:

Not sure if this has been called out before

But when trying to input a time for a Timed Submission the second part where yu confirm the time is obscured by the BOX

You can get around it by manually entering the time but that seems to defeat the purpose of the dropdown

I am using Chrome as my Browser should that be the issue

Could the game Snow Bros. 2 on MAME be updated to reflect changes in MAME's history, please. There isn't much in the way of actual changes but things have been shuffled around.

- 0.144: Start of input ports cleanup in the Toaplan2 driver [Alex Jackson, Kanikani]: Removed some unused macros from toaplipt.h. Fixed polarity of DIP locations in Toaplan2. Added some missing inputs. Added more DIP locations and missing inputs. Added information about ingame test/debug features to comments. Unified Toaplan2 inputs with the other Toaplan drivers. Added 'Test Switch' dipswitch.
- 0.147u4: Bulk replace of Jumper settings from DIP-switches menu to Game Configuration in Toaplan2 driver [Angelo Salese].
- 0.217: jordigahan, Heckler and ClawGrip added clone Snow Bros. 2 - With New Elves / Otenki Paradise (Nyanko). Note: Game is not a bootleg, has original parts (the "GP9001 L7A0498 TOA PLAN" IC and the three mask ROMs). Changed parent description to 'Snow Bros. 2 - With New Elves / Otenki Paradise (Hanafram)'.

Other clones have been added and while the current ROM set is correct, could the game name be updated to "Snow Bros. 2 - With New Elves / Otenki Paradise (Hanafram)" to better distinguish it from the clones.

Could the rules better reflect the expected experience of recent versions:

Before:

ROMSet: SnowBro2
Flip Screen: Off
Service Mode: Off
Continue Mode: Normal
Difficulty: Medium
Bonus Life: 100K only
Lives: 3
Invulnerability: Off
Maximum Players: 4
Show All Rights Reserved: No
Territory: Europe

After:

ROMSet: SnowBro2

DIP Switch configuration:

Flip Screen: Off
Service Mode: Off
Continue Mode: Normal
Difficulty: Medium
Bonus Life: 100K only
Lives: 3
Invulnerability: Off
Maximum Players: 4

Machine Configuration settings:
Show All Rights Reserved: No
Territory: Europe

(Note: for MAME 0.147 and prior, these settings are in the DIP switch area.)

Thanks. :D

A bigger breakdown of the change is available on the wiki: https://www.twingalaxies.com/wiki_index.php?title=Game:MAME-History-S-So-ROM-sets

Before:

Unknown 2-0&1&2: 3

After:

Difficulty: Normal (Note: for MAME 0.109 and prior this DIP switch is labelled "Unknown 2-0&1&2" and must be set to a value of 3 to match.)

I think TG needs to rethink the rulesets for individual games. As it stands there are a plethora of games that have stated written rules, and then adjudicators have decided those rules dont matter and should be disregarded. Because of this there are accepted submissions which blatantly disregard written rules for the game because adjudicators decided those rules dont matter.
So who writes the rules, the tracks creator, or the adjudicators?

If I make a track with the rules "must wear a yellow shirt while playing this track" and adjudicators decide thats a stupid rule that doesnt need to be followed...then where are we heading with this? Who's actually making these tracks? And since adjudicators are different from one day to the next, from one submission to the next, this could make for unclear, murky "rules" from submission to submission. What if one group of adjudicators on Monday think the yellow shirt rule is dumb and shouldnt be followed, but on Friday we have a different group of adjudicators who think the yellow shirt rule should be adhered to?

A lot of this could be fixed if TG admin would edit rules on already populated tracks. For example, all the arcade rules created by TG which require "factory settings" and include all the dipswitch settings for things like 'screen orientation' or "attract sound", those rules should be done away with. Otherwise you have people who will actually follow the rules to the letter, and then when others come along who dont follow those rules and get their submission accepted it alienates those who did follow the rules completely.

As the TG leaderboards stand we have games with rulesets that say "no cheat codes" yet have accepted submissions which blatantly use cheat codes, we have games where the rules say "no created characters" with accepted submissions that blatantly use created characters....all because adjudicators who spoke up on that one day didnt care about adhering to the written rules. We have a ton of arcade games with rules for things like 'screen orientation' and 'free play' that EVERYONE disregards.

I dont think discrepancies like this promote fairness and transparency.

I dont think all these discrepancies have the same exact solution. I think for the 'arcade' category TG should do away with all the dipswitch rules for non-gameplay switches on tracks created by TG, for starters. Secondly I think TG should make it so people can report ruleset errors and discrepancies in this thread so that they may be changed by TG if admin believe its warranted. I'm not sure I have a solution for some of the other issues I described, but I think putting thought into finding solutions for those problems is warranted and should be done.

[snip]

Excellent points, Excelliron! In terms of your question, I think my answer would be "both" track creators and adjudicators. I agree that it would be a great project to go through the rules and tweak them where it makes sense and adds clarity when time and resources permit. But in the meantime, I think the next best thing is for TG members to note these kinds of situations by taking advantage of the "Discussion" field that accompanies each track on the leaderboard. By hyperlinking an adjudication or wall post that shares something about the rule history or its current interpretation, that would be great breadcrumbs for future submitters and possible pruning of the track rules down the road.

In returning to your question about who sets the rules, the track creator or the adjudicators, your example of Arcade DIP settings is a great one. Screen orientation or sound on attract mode have zero bearing on the game conditions for competitive purposes. If someone recorded a new world record on an arcade game and it's revealed that they kept the "sounds on attract mode" ON when it should have been OFF, I think that's a perfectly reasonable situation where the TG community could decide in that adjudication "this DIP doesn't affect the conditions of the game, we can let it pass." Screen orientation will absolutely change depending whether one is playing on an upright or a cocktail, so we need to be flexible there as well. In terms of the other situations that you're alluding to between track creators or adjudicators, I'm not sure where I would come down. When I'm involved in those situations, I generally try to gauge does the rule interpretation minimize or maximize the chance for the community to participate, and does "re-intrepreting" the rule change the competitive conditions of the contest so it's no longer "apples and apples" but "apples and oranges."
