Constructing an index which truly measures the skill levels of record holders, step 4

Master is the fourth skill level to be measured, so the relevant index shall be called the Master Skill Index. It shall take the form of a multiplier, with a strength of 3000, applicable to the Competitive Participation Index.

To be eligible for inclusion in the Master Skill Index, score trackers must have at least two mandatory goal requirements, achievable solely through full advancement (final stage, highest difficulty level, etc) through the relevant game; and must explicitly prohibit pregame advancement (starting at a late stage, starting with a high score, etc). If the relevant game has some sort of conclusion, the score tracker must require players to complete the game.

Examples of goal requirements:-
  • Attainment of a minimum score.
  • Completion of the game within a limited timespan.
  • Earning specific awards during gameplay.

The following examples are not goal requirements:-
  • Playing at an elevated difficulty level.
  • Compliance with rules against leeching.
  • Tying or breaking extant records.

Score trackers fitting the preceding description shall be referred to as master tracks.

And no leeching, well put! Certainly, the more scores the better for a leaderboard, but perhaps that all boils down to access and interest, depending on the game and platform.

Ooh, Simon, I was meaning to ask you, were you aware of the free lives bonanza in arcade/MAME Double Dragon around the 990k score mark, that's like some of the classic arcade games, prior to watching that long .inp playback? Since you mentioned it, I was compelled to see it for myself, pretty crazy. Thanks for pointing that out, happy gaming! :)

I believe having tracks which acknowledge higher levels of skill as proven will intensify interest and competition. Twin Galaxies doesn't agree, apparently, which is a pity.

Never liked the game, so didn't know much about it, before my current research project.
