INP analysts' resources: MAME 106

Since TG persists with its "106 standard", as regards the rules for MAME tracks, anyone wishing to perform INP analyses is obliged to have that old version of MAME on his or her computer, along with its outdated ROMS, etc.

Adjudicators only now looking to get into INP analysis are highly unlikely to have any of those files, which have been unavailable for purchase, for over a decade. The good news is that most of said files may be downloaded, via this torrent.

It is not my intention to violate any copyrights. In the extremely unlikely event that I've done so, I'd readily delete this post. It should be noted that historical preservation is a legitimate reason for assuming exemption from copyright restrictions. Historical preservation is certainly one of the goals of the aforelinked torrent, plus the fact that adjudicators would use the files for testing & verification purposes.

We are having a discussion regarding allowing vanilla MAME +live play (with hands) as an alternative to WolfMAME. Allowing this possibility may alleviate some of the concern raised in your wall post.

If you are so inclined, please weigh in on this discussion over here:

I'm not actually raising a concern, here. Just noting that INP analysis, under the "106 standard", requires access to some not very accessible resources. With this recent post, I stated my personal view that recordings of live gameplay could be a viable alternative to analysable INPs.
