It's a slow news day when...

... there's only one game in the world to report on.

It's actually worse than your screenshot of 3 articles on Donkey Kong.

It's actually 6 of the last 8 articles posted at Twin Galaxies, are regarding Donkey Kong (yes Castle Kong was added in the number as well, since it is related to Donkey Kong).

They are all very good articles, and well written. However there is far more to video gaming, than just 1 game. Did you know someone beat the world record recently on an arcade title held since 1983? Yes a new world record after 37 years. Well it didn't get noticed, and it was during the DK sagas.

There are also many other great scores being achieved. So it's hard for game writers, to catch everything, or even have the time to write the stories. So no criticism on what has been written, just some feedback on some other great stories.

    Hi gang,

Sorry about the lack of new content, and yes, DK had a way of suddenly asserting it's old-time dominance of the newsfeed. Unfortunately I'm not able to reliably put up new content regularly although I have a few planned articles in the hopper. When I do sit down to research/write in the evening it just eats into time that I hang out with the family so I have these spurts where I do that to get a piece up, lately I've been trying to write once everyone is in bed but that hasn't been working so well.

Writing articles is strictly a voluntary (non-paid) gig, which doesn't diminish the enjoyment I get posting articles, but it does mean that it happens when it can.

In the absence of eSport content, my contributions are getting extended exposure on the feed and I'm feeling a bit guilty about the static content. I've noticed that with the older (circa 2000s) TG that there was a number of different contributors on the classic games beat covering different stories, so if you'd like to contribute or know of other members who would seriously like to jump in, I think that would be a great idea to see content from different folks for a more active feed so please pass the word!

All of that to say I have one article almost done (on a non-DK topic) hopefully it will be up on the weekend.

    Cheers,

    Jason

Hey Jason, I thank you for the content you have produced. Totally understand the time thing, I am in the same situation.

I want to write a series of articles about retro gaming on a Raspberry Pi. When I can a few hours I'll put it together and make a wall post, perhaps that will be good enough to be turned into a news article.

The responses are definitely an eye-opener. I wasn't aware TG had turned amateur-only.

Given my nature of my writing gig, I have free license to write on what I want (well, it has to be related to the gaming scene), which is much appreciated, and those DK-related stories leapt out at me. That's why having more community writers would be great to see - more viewpoints, more interests, more content.

I think you have done an incredibly good job of writing articles that you felt passionate about. They are very well written, to the point that most people didnt realize that there are community written articles and not from paid writers!

That is a testament to your contributions!

If others in the community want to occasionally contribute on that level, they can feel free to contact me to discuss.

The largest difference between the news article and a wall post is that google news will track TG's news postings and they get more immediate exposure. This is why there is a higher bar for contributions there and your actual name is used with the published news article.

You are appreciated, as all contributors are!

absolutley its your choice, maybe it sounded like i was implying otherwise? i also think star wars is over rated, doesnt mean people dont have the right to waste their money buying all the star wars dolls that they dont even open up. same with dk, it was a fine game, but i dont see where it was good enough to dedicate a lifetime of playing too. just always strikes me as odd that so many people care about it to that extent, so its smart for you as a writer to give the people what they want, i just find it odd that thats what they want

I have been able to submit much time to the article writing as I wished, thanks to work of COVID-19. But when I can spend more time on it, it won't be Donkey Kong. ;). I promise. Unless it a story on how one man create a movement similar to shaqfu.com for Donkey Kong. To remove all Donkey Kong PCBs from planet earth.

Replace Shaqfu with Donkey Kong and I feel the same way.

    "Reasons for LIBERATING:

You prevent other generations from feeling the corruption of this game and its evil.
You clear up the enormous copies of Shaq-Fu lying on the shelves in used console game stores. By doing so, you remove it from public display so that people will not be reminded of the game's existence.
Purchasing many copies of the game shifts the demand schedule, consequently raising the price. Even though it costs you more money, it reduces the incentive for a non-liberator to buy the game; a worthwhile sacrifice.
By getting it from another person, you remove the burden and embarrassment they feel.

You're doing great work Jason, dont be discouraged by any negativity about DK.

Most people dont like it only because they cant play it ;)

Most people don't like Donkey Kong because of the people that DO play it.

HAHA, I can't win. I will say this: I like Crazy Kong better because of the layout of the boards and the "heya!" when mario jumps. Everything else about it seems weird.
