Pin Mod to Genesis/MD

Hey so there was kind of a big submission adjudicated right now. It was rejected and I honestly want to discuss how such a thing can be accepted.

https://www.twingalaxies.com/showthread.php/224478-Sega-Genesis-Sega-Mega-Drive-Thunder-Force-IV

TG has a major history of separating things for tracking purposes when there are hardware differences. Well let me tell you about a unique situation. SEGA made the Genesis/MD to be adaptable to region specifications. They manufactured Base Model systems that then went through channels to be region-specific by way of simple pin mods to the boards.

One such NTSC console was modified by the owner to run in PAL mode. A single pin was lifted and grounded. It was discovered that this wasn't a truly accurate NTSC to PAL conversion as the clock speed was about 1% off.

Despite the clock speed (I don't care too much about it given it's so small and affects only points runs) there's the big issue about modified consoles. I personally support mods of this type - the OEM defined the console as being modifiable to meet region needs. But it's not "original hardware" per the definition of TG.

Let the comments rip y'all. @YesAffinity will be correcting the oscillator so it's true to speed. I'm sure of it. Even if he does that will that be sufficient? I hope YES but that would upend many a conversation already had about how to track scores here at TG. We need a revolution - is the Genesis/MD mod the impetus we need?

Edit: I mentioned very prominently in the submission thread that the tracking of such scores is subject to scrutiny. I want that scrutiny to continue and I never mean to poo-poo a record submission but I do want to make it clear when TG has taken stances on things. I am not a gate-keeper and I wish for all people to have access to all platforms as long as it's fair and in the name of respectful competition.

As I mentioned in the thread, if hardware needs to be modified to run a game then the hardware is no longer original.

the only semantics ill add to this, is a physical cartridge is hardware, controllers are hardware, everything is hardware. at tg "hardware" usually means the processing hardware.
