Submission Interests of the Month

Hey everyone.

I've been grinding on lots of MAME with not a ton of progress except getting some scores entered for tourneys that are on right now (El Crapolo, Galaga Group monthly challenges, MGL) so I'm thinking about some console runs I can make as a "break" from the CAG grind. Here's what I'm planning for the next few weeks:

NES - Ninja Gaiden - Points : If I can make it to Stage 5-1 with all five lives I have decided to take advantage of a particular point pressing opportunity and sack all five on that stage to see how high that method can go. It'll be fun because I don't have to play any of Stage 6 which is not exactly fun. Oh also I have this on the Wii Virtual Console so @Pixe Sukola I'm comin for that #1 spot.

Sega Genesis - Sonic The Hedgehog / Golden Axe / Columns / Super Hang-On : I have the 6-pak cartridge and the four games above explicitly state that the 6-pak can be used as a valid cartridge to submit to these tracks. The Revenge of Shinobi and Streets of Rage tracks do NOT state this, and I'd like peoples thoughts on that, but for now I'm going to skip them. I got lost down the rabbit hole on the Sonic Retro wiki following all the story lines last night too so I'm excited to play some Sonic.

GB - Motocross Maniacs : Someone snuck under me on Course 1 while I was gone. I'd like to get that back.

GB - Skate or Die: Bad 'n Rad : Still just me on this Points track but I want to play this so I'm going to play it.

GB - Tetris - Points / Lines : I have an abusive relationship with this game. I can't walk away no matter how much it whoops my ass. Time to make a run again.

Hope everyone is doing well.

I've had Skate or Die on my list for a minute...have been practicing on and off for a bit, so I'll try to prioritize and get something up this month on it. Need to get some decent subs in for the last two MGL games, but will then be ready for a break from MAME

My MGL subs have been total shite placeholders that I haven't gotten back to. I need to finish strong on the last three games but I've been swamped. Anyway yeah man GB skate or die is killer. It's one of the games I had as a kid so it's got a special place in my heart.

I got into Skateboarding games with Grind Session on PS1, I think just before discovering the Tony Hawks 1 & 2 games (might have been the other way around but Grind Session was a far better play). I was soon hooked on the genre, picking up the PS2 titles & various other extreme sports titles as I found them. I didn't find Skate or Die on PS1 until only a few years back and it has just sat on a shelf (now sat in a box buried under other boxes, probably). I liked the notion of having it ready to be picked up when I was ready for it (better than most games which are just "in the collection") but just never got around to it. I picked up a disc copy of Olli Olli 1 & 2 (one disc, both games) after seeing @Pixe Sukola submissions but have treated that much the same as Skate or Die. :(

I remember Grind Session! That's the first game I used a bad PSX emulator for. It does have good physics I must say (if I recall correctly).

Ninja Gaiden submissions made for NES and WiiVC - this'll stand for a while until I practice my 5-1 through 6-3 running. I need to rebuild my chops. I sacked lives on 5-1 and am now wondering how many points there are to be had from re-doing all of World 6 since you go back to 6-1 when you lose at the boss battle. If it's less than, say, 75k points then it's still better to sack 'em at 5-1 but somehow I can't imagine that much gameplay not resulting in more than 75k.

Practicing Motocross Maniacs and learned something about it - the person that beat my Track 1 score apparently knew this: When you get a "Jet" bonus you can use your nitro boosts while in the air and you don't have to make contact with the track (which is the way it works without the Jet bonus). This changes things a lot so I'm relearning some of my "best routes" as many have changes now.
