    07-30-2015 at 10:07 PM
My 6th arcade related road trip of the year has taken me and my family all the way to Pittsburgh PA, to ReplayFX and The Kong Off 4. Joining me on this trip are my three children, and my wife Stephanie.

We arrived in Pittsburgh late Wednesday afternoon. Much to our surprise, the city ...

In the middle of the coldest February on record, I decided to load up the van and take my wife and kids on a short road-trip to the grand re-opening of Richie Knucklez arcade in Flemington, New Jersey.

Because this was a last minute ...

The latest issue of Arcade Culture Magazine features a work of art from the Dan Tearle collection. Dan is a talented UK sports artist. Joel West is every robot's worst nightmare.

  6. Wht da? Two kill screens?

    12-20-2014 at 03:11 PM
That's right, Allen Staal got his first kill screen. Twice in the same game. He had an extra man when he got the first killscreen, so he was able to keep going until the second kill screen. Awesome!

You do it, I do it. We keep coming back to the Twin Galaxies website. We read the forums, we read the blogs. We even read messages from people we have blocked.

What is going on? Why are we so hooked?

Well, it turns out that little video feed in the upper right hand ...

    08-05-2014 at 10:56 PM
This is the official color photo of the Twin Galaxies / Life Magazine re-enactment in Ottumwa Iowa. The version floating around the net was quickly thrown together just to get the buzz going.

This was a tough shot. The ground was very un-even, I was up a ladder and feeling woozy from ...

  11. Who's your daddy?

    07-26-2014 at 11:35 AM
One thing you can say about Walter day is that women love getting their photo taken with him. This cover from early 2013 shows exactly that.

  12. Why the stripes?

    07-26-2014 at 09:46 AM
One of the most recognized images in gaming is Walter Day in his referee uniform. Did you ever wonder what inspired him to don the striped shirt in the first place? I took a stroll through the Arcade Culture archives and found an early issue that explains it all.

ACAM holds an annual tournament at Funspot in New Hampshire. Of course you knew that!

I have participated in 4 of the last 5 tournaments. They are by far the funnest gaming events I have been to. Around 100 players compete for the highest score on 20+ games. The tournament runs from ...

When you are in a tournament, it is important to stay comfortable and wear loose fitting clothes. That is what I thought until I met Allen Staal. When he plays in the Kong Off, he is one sharp dressed man.

You have to marvel at Allen's dedication to classic arcade gaming when you realize ...

I am a gamer and a photographer. I always bring my camera to tournaments. Here is a cover I did of me and Miss Weirs Beach. She was a lovely girl, handed out the trophies, played some games. In other words, it was a real treat to meet her.

  20. Recursive Gamer

    05-25-2014 at 02:11 PM
If you are a computer programmer, you know what recursion is: a procedure that has as one of it's steps a call to itself.

Photos that have the photo embedded inside them can also be called recursive. I found a photo of Richie Knucklez looking rather intense while holding up an award. ...

As a photographer, some thing just jump out at me and beg to be photographed. I never set out that day to take a photo of a phone, but it was in the hallway of my hotel just begging for it.

I took the photo and went on with the rest of my day. A month or two later while back in Canada, ...
  24. King of Crazy Kong

    05-15-2014 at 01:32 PM
At the bowling alley in my home town, there was always at least one ****tail style arcade game to play. It seemed to be on some sort of rotation that offered Mrs. Pacman, Galaga, and Crazy Kong.

    Yup. Crazy Kong.

I never even played Donkey Kong until the mid nineties and ...
  25. Walter Day Kidnapped!

    05-15-2014 at 12:35 PM
Josh Jones gave me permission to browse through his photos for a picture of Walter Day.

The one I found was perfect. There was just something about Walter's eyes looked like he was secretly pleading for help, or he was trying to blink s.o.s. in morse code...something.
