Making progress, I almost have the main algorithm of Dragster decoded, but I still got alot of work ahead of me! I think I may have found something of interest, but I won't know if it is anything until I fully understand how the code works.

This came in the mail today. It's a special made reproduction of the Stella programmer's guide that developers where given so they can program Atari 2600 games. I'm really surprised such things don't exist for the NES or Sega Genesis. This book has been floating around the Internet ...

When I was a kid I discovered that if you enter the game genie codes to fight smoke on every level, there was a way you could play as him, as well as all the other secret characters. They all had glitched moves that I'm sure not anyone has ever seen before. Anyhow here's some old videos ...

This is a hack of Dragster I made to find the -MAXIMUM SPEED- possible under impossible conditions. 3.27 is the fastest possible if the speed counter was set to its maximum and kept there until the end of the race. The maximum speed is possible, what is not possible is the ability to start the game ...

Here is an early draft from my Dragster research with all the various memory locations I could identify. Some of them may not be listed and some might have very vague descriptions but as I continue to work I'll be updating these pages with the correct info. As I know there are others who have done ...

I developed a cheat that allows the tachometer to max out without blowing out the engine. It also adds a new challenge to the game play as it's possible to achieve a variety of scores. My personal best is 5.61. I strongly believe 5.57 is possible using this cheat.Enter the following codes in ...

I found out where in memory the timer is updated and stored. Using the top right hand portion of the screen, try to see if you can spot it. It's in that small table that represents the Atari's RAM! Even more interesting, it's formatted in binary coded decimal!

Onto the most crucial part of the Dragster code: Where I suspect the notorious algorithm lies: $F217 ($F221) . If it isn't here, I could say for upmost certainty that alot of very important components happen here, like sound, and VSYN/VBLANK which signals the next frame update. During ...

This made my day. Just got this in the mail! Roger Blair is a multi world record holder who I met on Twin Galaxies during the Dragster dispute. He, I and several others were in a race to get the 5.57 world record. Although I never achieved mine (The best I got was a 5.61), we kind of formed ...

  11. Dragster Analysis: Progress!

    08-17-2019 at 09:33 PM
This is the most craziest project I have ever took on because I have never done it before. Dissemble a rom and figure out how it works. This is the beginning of my analysis of Dragster for the Atari 2600. At the moment I'm documenting a function that is responsible for drawing the Dragracers. This ...

I wasted more than an hour trying to figure out where the Atari 2600 maps its collision detection and joystick inputs to.

This came in the mail yesterday. A strategy guide by Rudy Ferretti. For the record, I blocked him a year or two ago. I needed a good laugh, which is why I bought this. After I review it, I might burn it, or give it to a homeless guy, or use the pages as toilet paper. I haven't decided yet.
