More cheating in the speed running community

An interesting video by Apollo Legend showing video splicing in the speed running community. This is one more reason that TGSAP is superior for adjudicating.

The last 5 minutes of this video show how easy it is to splice video and get it accepted.

    well hold up man, the fact the cheating was caught, just like cheaters are caught here shows it working.

    what this actually shows is the superiority of peer review, verification opened to the world at large, transparent, zero referees system.

    there's also overlap between tgsap and speedrunners. i like the speed run tries to find runs even not submitted to them for thoroughness, but i like that tg has no moderators (speed run has something sort of like refs for speciific games called moderatos, and i know of at least one case where i didnt find the moderator to be honorable, but hey, at least its transparent so everyone knew the issue)

    Watch the last 5 minutes of the second video (I just added). Apollo shows how easy it is to get a spliced run accepted.

    But but guys, the speedrunner community is 100% legit and TG should reach out to them and not the other way around, right? ; )

    Oh man, the TG score board has a long way to go before it can be thought of as 100% legit.

    The way I see it, both communities have fun playing video games, watching and encouraging each other. I prefer TGSAP for adjudication. I am just sad that so many losers have to cheat to feel good about themselves.

    True, mainly because the old scores that cant be even viewed and challenged. Speedrun.com should atleast separate emulation from original to have some credibility, just my thoughts.

    You can always seperate the two on the leaderboard, just choose to either show only console, only emulator or both.

    Cheaters will always exist everywhere and there will always be ways to cheat without it being noticeable. TGASP is no superior in that regard. Anyone can watch through at TGASP, anyone can watch through a speedrun. The difference is that you are forced to watch TGASP records, to gain points, meaning you don't have to know a single thing about the game in order to give it a verdict and you can just as easily just vote without you watching the run first, as you can with any speedrun.

    So I really don't understand the "superior" part of TGASP in that comparision. It's however LOTS better than the old TG ways, but nothing is 100% bullet proof. I can easily submit a spliced run to TGASP without anyone noticing, it really is simple. I could easily submit a run on a banned flash cart, on a modded game, modded console etc. without anyone noticing. This is true for SRC as well. It's also easily possible to cheat even if the person verifying the run is sitting next to me while I'm playing.

    TLDR;

    I don't think this particularly places any weight for or against Speedrunners/TG. It just highlights that retention of video is important.
