Speaking of early 80's...

So I am investigating the early 80's technology. I love blending new tech with old tech. If I can get this Cybernex terminal up and running I can start trying to connect it to various serial ports (Raspberry Pi, some old GPS devices I have lying around, anything I can think of).

This is the Cybernex terminal. Turns out they were made right here in Ottawa Canada! I picked one up at a storage locker haul and I am loving it.

Stock photo.

Mine is the yellow one on the left.

I took off the cover (4 simple screws)

Saw a troubling battery. 9 volt?? LOL. Wasn't expecting that.

Battery has seen better days. Gotta remove the terminals (still stuck to their connector) with some pliers and clean things up a bit with baking soda and a damp rag.

Sadly the fuse is missing. I have to find one that fits (pretty easy) and figure out how to mount it as it seems a screw cap is missing as well.

When this is up and runnign I plan on connecting to TG via telnet and seeing if I can get the high score on Star Traders or something. Wish me luck!

Oh yeah, any bets on what color the monitor will be? Black/white, green, or perhaps that weird orange color?

Nice find - love seeing tech that was built in Canada, let alone Ottawa.

You’ll need to call up a few BBSes too when it’s up and running!

As I am sure you know, Ottawa's telephony/high tech sector dominated in the 90's. You could not throw a rock without hitting a Nortel building. Also Corel was big in the 80's making network devices before they switched over to software.

MITEL is a landmark as well. All fascinating stuff to me, I love the tech, I love the history.

This thread should be locked for going "Off Topic" since now it's about Nortel buildings.

Sorry Nintendo but you don't get to decide what the topics are on my thread. I created the thread so only I am able to determine if it is off topic or not. And if it is off topic? Who the hell cares. This is between galaxies not fascist galaxies.
