Quick Research Update

Dear all,

Last Friday I took TG Research to lunch in sunny Leigh on Sea and much fun (and drinks) were had. Minus Glen, our consultant, who lives in the wrong country, the team spent several hours discussing everything TG-related. This was only our second physical meeting since the team began earlier this year and it was important to get some face-to-face feedback from the guys. We are all pleased with how much we have been getting done but it can also be quite frustrating for us.

One thing that is clear is that, now we have a team working on all issues across the site, the expectations from the community are high. Imagine a giant funnel representing all the current issues and suggested improvements from the membership. Research, working with Admin and IT/Engineering are underneath the funnel trying to drink all the water that comes out of the bottom. This can only be done at a finite rate and yet more and more water (not beer) is added to the funnel at a higher rate than ever before.

With much help from expert community members (you know who you are!) we are gradually getting through everything. There are plenty of issues that require IT/Engineering to resolve which means some take longer than others. I have been very careful to ensure nothing is rushed. The more we prod and poke the database, the more we discover. For example ‘default settings’ as the sole rule for a track means different things depending on when the track was founded.

Without all the help from the community our work would take much longer so, on behalf of Research and Twin Galaxies as a whole, thank you everyone who has spent time, energy and passion in helping us make TG as good as it can be. Someone mentioned on the forum some months back that TG is such a great concept, it’s worth doing it properly.

Personally I could not be happier with the performance of TG Research in the months since I hired them. They are conscientious, careful and passionate and, just as important, they are enjoying the work and the satisfaction of every little fix and improvement. Capturing all the current and historical issues will be much easier soon with an impending ticketing system which will prevent the need for members to bump their issues and also prevent older issues from falling into the long grass.

So please join me in congratulating Ben, Stephen and Glen for a job well done so far! There is still a long way to go and we will continue to rely on everyone here to keep TG moving in the right direction while respecting our long and complicated history.

As for me, it will soon be 12 months since starting at Twin Galaxies. I have no idea where that time has gone. But I will soon be taking a break and will be living in a tent in Cornwall for three weeks. I will be taking a laptop and will have Internet access so, from 6 July I will be semi-working for two weeks and then from the 20th to 29th July I will be mostly unavailable unless there are emergencies.

Everyone please keep up the good work!

Unfortunately, as the dog is a TG employee he/she cannot submit to the pomeranian rescue track (note despite title, leniency is made for other breeds, sadly no leniency exists for employees)

Cheers to you guys and much appreciation for what you've accomplished and tolerated over the past months. Most importantly, keeping an open and active dialog going with the community on site improvements and error identification. Please keep using the power of the community to help guide us (collectively) on this journey of competitive gaming.

    Ticket Number # 1 : Intellivision Flashback Motocross : Course # 3

This one was part of the water that came into the funnel from the parting of the Red-Sea.

Apart from this ticket, every day you guys improve upon the site ...

A year ago the site looked helpless - it already looks much improved. MUCH improved !!!!! You guys deserve your day-off with a "cold one" on the terrace.

Is that Spuds Mackenzie behind that blonde? OMG I'm old.

    Enjoy guys !!

Thank You Brandon .... for the proper use of the Canadian "eh" worked perfectly into a sentence by an American !!!!

No; we don't say "Hello, eh" in Canada.

Datagod and I are up to here with the improper use of "eh".

Proper use of Canadian "eh". It is almost always used as a way to ask for confirmation of stated fact, eh? You understand me, eh? Sure it hot out, eh? That snow is deep, eh?

I never even realized I used the phrase until I was giving a speech in Washington DC, and my colleagues giggled at my accent.

Same here. I'm just me ... and I'll throw in an "eh" just naturally and everyone points at me and says "hey you just said "eh" "

You know what I mean eh?
