Quick Question - on the following:

Can this be set to free play with the DIPS and still be compliant? I believe the DIPS would be different to make that happen. Secondly, if the below DIPS are on - and the coin door is not hooked up - how are you able to keep starting new games?

Thanks!

MD.

This is the ORIGINAL Ms. Pac-Man game with the ROM that replaces the existing ROM in location 6F on the main logic board that speeds up the game.

Dip Switch Bank:
1 = OFF
2-3 = ON
4 = OFF
5-6 = ON
7-8 = OFF

Note: The above Dip Switches, are not only the FACTORY DEFAULT settings, but are also the correct Twin Galaxies Tournament Settings for this title and will provide the following settings;

3 Ms. Pac-Man
1 Bonus Ms. Pac-Man @ 10,000 Points

    Any rules which are old (has only Twin Galaxies listed as the creator) are going to assume it is a coin-operated machine as that was the normal thought process when the rules were created.

    Onto the question:

    The real problem with answering your question is that "it depends on who reviews the submission." There's simply no way to guarantee that a submission is accepted but you can do many things to ensure there's very high likelihood. One of those things is following the rules to a tee.

    Now, if you can't follow the rules to a tee and you believe that there's some leeway for using a different option somehow: it is for you to explain in your submission and convince the current audience (who is potentially completely different day-to-day, week-to-week) that what you've done has no bearing.

    Many times in the past the coin option vs. free play arguments have been accepted submissions. However, the dispute process looms behind every accepted submission: if someone, somewhere down the line, finds a good reason that your assumed changes are actually significant, the score can be disputed and potentially thrown off the scoreboard.

    The good: your score would probably get accepted.

    The bad: it might get disputed and removed.

    Them's the breaks of the current system.

    everything barthax says is correct, but to add to it, the reason he can say confidentally free play will likely be approved despite technically being against the rules, is its been allowed many times before. still, it always open the door to debate as different people review different submissions.

    also, i might need an education here. you talked about replacing a rom, can you elaborate? is this more than simply wanting to play on free play? theres been an actual edit to the rom itself?

    Barthax, thank you so much for the detailed response. I appreciate it and agree. I have seen many free play submissions accepted as well and agree it is case sensitive.

    Thanks!

    Thank you as well Snowflake. Yes, their is a chip that is commonly replaced for the “fast” version of Ms. Pac-Man. The mention below is from TG. The sped up version is more fun in my opinion!
