Its on like Donkey Kong!

We are pleased to announce the first official Twin Galaxies bounty has been posted!

Admittedly the cash reward portion is fairly modest, but that is primarily because we are still in beta and this bounty is a bit of a stress test for our systems. We want to shake out any last remaining bugs before we move on to bigger or more extensive arrays of bounties.

We would very much like to encourage the community to participate and compete in this one. It will help the system evolve and improve and it should be a lot of fun too!

The link to the bounty is here:

https://www.twingalaxies.com/game/bounty-challenge/bounty-challenges/250-donkey-kong-arcade-mame-highest-score-within-10-minutes

Please share it all over the internet and with your friends to encourage participation! Let's see how it goes.

In terms of bounty rewards, here is an excerpt from the description:

After the Bounty Challenge is CLOSED and all submissions are adjudicated -

BOUNTY CLAIM RANK #1 WILL RECEIVE - One (1) TG Achievement Point, One (1) $250 Amazon eGift Card, and the option to receive a unique TG user profile member title of "Kong King" - this profile title will remain until January 1st, 2023 and then will revert back to the user's previous TG user title.

BOUNTY CLAIM RANK #2 WILL RECEIVE - One (1) TG Achievement Point, and One (1) $150 Amazon eGift Card.

BOUNTY CLAIM RANK #3 WILL RECEIVE - One (1) TG Achievement Point, and One (1) $100 Amazon eGift Card.
Hopefully the bounty is clear in its rules and objectives. If you have any questions feel free to post to this thread or to the bounty's discussion thread. We will be monitoring both closely!

Thank you!

I think the cash amounts are very generous. Nice work TG

Can one person claim all 3 prizes with 3 different scores? I'm sure they can't, just asking.

From the bounty description:

Only one score performance of an individual claimant can occupy the leaderboard at any time, therefore if the same claimant submits a better performance than their previous submission it will replace their lower scoring performance on the leaderboard.

The definition of Frame 1 of 1-1 needs to be expanded. For example, frame 1 could be the first frame of the game when drawing the 1-1 level or it could be the first frame of Jumpman's movement or anything in between depending on personal bias.

I would also appreciate clarification, but I already submitted a claim and I interpreted it as the first frame where Jumpman appears. That, to me, is the First Frame of 1-1 as it's the first frame where everything is drawn.

The definition is quite clear. It is FRAME 1 of LEVEL 1-1. That is an absolute definition with complete exactness. There can be no bias to affect this literal definition, as FRAME 1 of LEVEL 1-1 is scientifically quantifiable.

The program executes its display rasterization sequentially, so FRAME counts are absolute in nature.

If we look at a possibility that you suggest in regard to it perhaps being the first frame of Jumpman's movement, that by its own definition can not be FRAME 1 of LEVEL 1-1. That is FRAME 1 of Jumpman's movement - which in order to even get to that point in the sequential execution of Donkey Kong's FRAME rasterizer, more than 60 FRAMES of LEVEL 1-1 would have had to been previously rendered, because without that you wouldn't even see the Jumpman on the screen of LEVEL 1-1.

FRAME 1 of LEVEL 1-1 means FRAME 1 of LEVEL 1-1. Literally.

Well alright then. The first time any element appears of Level 1-1 is when DK is climbing the girders and then stomps and growls then it's the How High Can You Get screen and THEN it's when you start playing.

So the first appearance of L=01 on the screen must be the first frame of Level 1-1. I'll get some more screen grabs from my INP and add them to my bounty claim. Hopefully it doesn't affect my score (there's a level transition right at the end so we'll see).

In this case, is Frame 304 to be considered FRAME 1 of LEVEL 1-1?

Ok. I will make it more clear since it is so technical.

This is FRAME 1 of LEVEL 1-1

This is the very first frame that the game renders of LEVEL 1-1. On original Arcade.

I think we all know what FRAME 1 of LEVEL 1-1 looks like on MAME right?

Not this frame 304 as the game has not begun to render the actual playfield yet.

Awesome bounty to start things off with for TG.

Why can't we just use the most common use of the start of the timing sequence.

"The first frame that you are able to move your character"

We use that in so many of the games that we play, using your 1st frame of a screen being drawn will work but why not use what is almost standard use of when the timing starts.

Oh well it's too late

FRAME 1 of LEVEL 1-1 is fairly infamous, so that is why it is being used.

wait a minute.... i'm starting to think this is all just an innocent looking setup that by its nature, oh oops, just accidetnally encourages a lot of mockery of a famous buffoon

No sir. Not poking any fun at anything. It's just that FRAME 1 of LEVEL 1-1 on both of the Bounty's accepted competitive platforms have been seen and understood by many video game players worldwide, so it may be the most familiar and quantified single specific frame reference to initiate a common start time measurement from.

I know, Lady is just using Jumpman. They're both so ashamed of their behaviour they each change their names. :P

Actually frame L1-1 on MAME seems to be this (middle) image, I saw it on Bens submission as well. This is Wolfmame 0.243. The timer you see here is from LiveSplit software and has exactly 15.4 second delay from when you press P1 start.

"How high" text timer not started.

"How high" text wiping off on Left, griders coming on on right. Timer started (green), this would be frame 1 maybe, but not drawn on like in your image for MAME. (captured at 60fps).

Frame 2 maybe below? Girders not quite fully drawn.

FIRST BUG!

The Submission Message is getting squished down the right hand side of the frame on PC and mobile.

This contians important submission information.
