We've been considering making it mandatory that all future video submissions for score performances to be uploaded directly to Twin Galaxies' system and not allowing 3rd party video hosting for adjudication consideration.

Primary advantages:

We will be able to properly and consistently thumbnail/index all future submissions which will in turn allow us to build better/more intuitive score submission display and user access - for instance a submission review slider.

Evidence would be properly preserved and can not be altered or deleted by the submitter. Members could vote with confidence of permanence.

Primary disadvantages:

Members with difficulties uploading to the TG system will have to find workarounds. Typically problems only occur if the member has a very slow or very inconsistent internet connection when uploading.

File size could be an issue if the desire is to upload more than 50GB total in one submission. (Our system can take five 10GB files per submission maximum. This equates to a little more than 15 hours of 720p footage)

Obviously we will continue to work and improve our system's ability to ingest video data, but it for the most part it is serviceable now and has been working more reliably.

---

We are strongly considering this new policy - however we want to get some early reaction to this idea first before finalizing.

Having all score performance video self-contained within TG can create a lot more flexibility and opportunities for the community.

I use a ***** camera go pro like and use my micro SD and upload to TG and youtube all the time

it's not a big deal https://www.aliexpress.com/wholesale?catId=0&initiative_id=SB_20180102103140&SearchText=go+pro+camera

I'm also on board with the idea of requiring all videos to be uploaded and hosted on TG. I'd also like to encourage further work on making this process easier, more flexible, and more robust. Clearly there's need to identify a method to handle marathons and other long video sessions, along with investigating options for those who have issues with uploading to TG.

I'd also like to make a UI/UX suggestion. The system in place that handles images, while not perfect, has a lot of options that I'd love to see used for videos, too. The things that would be tremendously helpful would be to, first, allow being able to upload a video before attaching it to a submission. That would let me make sure the video is processed correctly by TG before it even reaches the submission. That would elimiate the "video not playable" issues that come up from time to time. Second, by doing this, then attaching a video or videos to a selection could be as easy as picking one through our personal video archive. No digging through source for Vzaar codes and the like.

I think this is a great idea!

I've actually brought this up a few times. The only problem I would have with this is sending an SD in the mail. They do cost money. Shipping costs money. Then TG would have to spend money to send it back. I could see something like 1 every 3 months or something may be acceptable and you put as many compressed files in there. Big SD cards can be about $80-100 bucks though is the crappy part.

Its not our recording equipment though. It's the upload.

There is another potential for marathons. A few times i've been fortunate enough to have TG host portions of my marathons, that puts it on their channel. Maybe TG would be willing to host all marathons on their twitch account with proper coordination and scheduling ahead of time? That would help the players and help TGs twitch channel as well.

maybe the settle it on the screen crew could do it through their channel instead of directly under the TG channel?

@Timmel @Ninglendo is that at all feasible?

Otherwise, the only way is to use a 3rd party site (YouTube or other related sites) to be able to achieve this. Even then, with adjudicators being super careful/strict about voting on submissions with YouTube videos, regardless of the submitter having been in good standings or not, those submissions may be in queue for an eternity.
You can upload more than 1 video for a submission.

When you choose "Upload video" in your submission form, just pick all the files you want to upload right there (up to five.)

You will then upload multiple videos.

17GB is a lot for a 2 hour video. Netflix videos are bout 1.5GB for the same duration. You need to change settings in your recording software. I can get mind down to 300MB per hour and they are still very clear for adjudication.

That does not seem sustainable for either party. FTP server might be a better option - of course reserved only for exceptionally large files with pre-approval from TG.

Process:
1- Gamer informs TG of their score and file size and requests FTP
2- TG approves
3- Gamer makes submission
4- Gamer uploads file to FTP
5- TG attaches it to the submission.

I just use my webcam. I'm actually OK with it taking that long since I would prefer better quality videos especially for older systems where the graphics are already blocky and hard to make out clearly. Good idea though, I've never actually tampered with settings. Not even sure where to look, it's in the windows app page. Google search, engaged.

Jace quoted from this thread:

https://www.twingalaxies.com/entry.ph...one-and-others

Jace writes
For a TGSAP score to remain in the database, all of the evidence that was contained within the database file at the time of adjudication for that score must remain present and accessible. This has always been the standard for TGSAP. It was never changed, and it is the cited verification method used for TGSAP scores when they are listed in the database.

As it currently sits now, anyone voting on a third party submission is at risk based on what is written in Jace's second response. In effect, this policy of no third party submissions is currently in place anyway. It doesn't matter if a backup exists as a backup can never again be attached to the original submission.

While working on making the TG uploader more robust is encouraging, it won't fully resolve marathons or users with upload issues. To resolve this, as already mentioned, would TG consider allowing users that fall into this category to snail mail data in? I would see this functioning as follows:

1. user sends data formatted to TG's liking
2. TG uploads data into user account and notifies user via PM
3. User then submits and attaches applicable data from their manually uploaded account

(TG could consider a modest fee for such a service to cover associated handling costs.)

It's hardly eloquent, but what other options would fully cover all users?

If the manual file mailing are low in quantity, this could work. If manual mailings increase in quantity, it would be a nightmare for TG.

Jace's post contradicts what Dave Hawksett has posted. That if the submitter attaches a zip file of the performance it would not be likely to be removed due to a dispute if the 3rd party video went missing

This would be existing evidence contained within a thread and as a result, forever valid.

However I thought TG also stated that no user was supposed to zip third party files any longer.

It's all so very confusing eh?

The submitter may upload their own zip but not another member. Unless maybe... Not sure about this part. Unless maybe the submitter asks for someone to upload it for them

Yes very confusing

I'm pretty sure zipping your own video may be in question too depending on the terms of the third party source. Super confusing.

We need @Dave Hawksett and @Jace Hall to clear this up asap as it will affect how users vote.
 • alarm

With the poor uploading recently, zipping video's is the only way I see a good outcome. Can't see why this would be a bad idea.
Not sure what post it was, one of my submissions, methinks.

I think zipping and attaching a file here in addition to uploading that same file to YT, is somehow different from uploading to YT, ripping from YT, then zipping and attaching here.
