We are pleased to announce that we finally have friendly urls for the Twin Galaxies Game Database!

What are "Friendly URLS?"

Well, normally when browsing the TG database, the various platforms and games and tracks are all referenced by database numbering and various alphanumeric unique identification sequences.

So for instance, this link would take us to the game PAC MAN:

By looking at this above link, you would not be able to know what game it links to. It is not very informative and it makes navigating Twin Galaxies less intuitive.

Also (and arguably most importantly) that link is not search engine friendly. Google and other engines have a harder time indexing links like that and will tend to prioritize them lower in search results!

Therefore the TG engineering staff has worked very hard to address this problem.

The challenge was to not only create all new friendly and readable links, but to also not suddenly invalidate all the prior links and ruin bookmarking and etc.

It was quite an undertaking to figure it out, with obstacles like exact duplicate game names rearing its ugly head (amongst other logic challenges.) Solving all this has required a tremendous amount of engineering work in the background to achieve.

However we believe that we have solved it - and the above link of gibberish now looks like this:

www.twingalaxies.com/pac-man

YAY!

Also what is really cool is that links to tracks are self-descriptive:

www.twingalaxies.com/pac-man/atari-2600-vcs/ntsc-game-1-difficulty-b/page/1

There may be a few bugs here and there, and if you find some please let us know in this thread.

We want to thank the community for its patience in this matter. We will continue to improve Twin Galaxies step-by-step. The work never ends!

Game on!

This is freakin' sweet. And it's something I never even knew I wanted until I got it :)

I have a newly added game that I'm unable to view the tracks for. Wonder if it's related.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection for Xbox One.

I can no longer search for emu in the search tracks spot. Also for instance...If I'm browsing atari and click on q*bert it brings me to the intellivision q*bert page. Certain atari games are bringing me to the arcade page lol. Please fix the track description already as it's still blank for me and many others

Games viewed from the main game list page often go to the wrong platform. Looks like the page doesn't include the target system in the URL. So after filtering on system and selecting the game, you have to double check you're viewing it for the correct system.

And the system URL for Xbox One is misspelled - it's xobox-one in the URLs.

I was viewing from the atari 2600 sub section and when clicking berzerk it brings me to the arcade berzerk tracks

Not sure if this is related or not, but in the flood of notifications of accepted scores today, I see one that is missing the game name. I can’t click on it either:

When searching for games, I did a general search on excitebike without choosing any platforms. Many platforms showed records, however when clicking on the game image, many linked to a 404 error (not shown on server - or something to that effect)

Searching in multi track games currently does not appear to be functioning.
