No. @admin staff, please do not change anything in the MAME realm just based on Juan's say-so. Ever.

We want players to set their DIPs consistently. If the labels are wrong, we still want the players to match whatever MAME makes available.

If mamedev changes the labels on this title, THEN we should revisit, but until then it's fine as it is - just leave it alone.

All I was doing was pointing out the the Twin Galaxy Rule for extra men was typed in wrong. But I guess MAME does it different when it is set up for the dips, I played this game and know that it does in fact give extra men at these bonuses I pointed out.

1. Terence are you saying that MAME DIPs are input this way even though that 20k means 20,000 points but in the game it is 200,000/200k,400k 900k points

Normally, 20k = 20,000, since 1k = 1,000. This comes from the k being an abbreviation for kilo, which is thousand in Latin.

It is the first time, I have seen 20k40k90k mean 200k,400k,900k when I been adjudicating MAME video game submissions.

20k means 20,000 points not 200,000,40k means 40,000 points not 400,000,90k means 90,000 points not 900,000

This not say so it is Fact, the game does give a player a Extra man at 200,000 points (200k), 400,000 points (400k),900,000 points (900k) and a Extra man and 1 million points at after defeating the boss

You can clearly see it in Pete Hahn game video M.A.M.E. - Gunforce: Battle Fire Engulfed Terror Island [World] - Points [Single Player Only] - 2,125,000

https://www.twingalaxies.com/showthread.php/207740-M-A-M-E-Gunforce-Battle-Fire-Engulfed-Terror-Island-World-Points-Single-Player-Only-2-125-000-Pete-Hahn?p=1047524#post1047524

Pete gets a extra man at 200,000 points 200k 14:09 left on the video

Pete Hahn gets a extra man at 400,000 points 400k at 11:56 left on the video &

Pete Hahn gets a extra man at 900,000 points /900k is at 3:39 left on the video

Thanks for the micro-lesson in orders of magnitude, but I'm not debating what actually happens in the game - we can see that the labels were setup incorrectly by MAME developers.

In order to maintain consistency in any track, we have rules to instruct players how to set their DIPs/internals, and we have to work with what we have.

Without meaning to confuse people in tech detail, looking at the source code for this game, it would have been very easy for mamedev to have made a slightly different error such that the 'Bonus Life' options would have read '300k only' / 'None'. Then the numbers would have been completely different rather than being an easily identifiable case of missing zeroes.

What should we do then? Follow what's on screen or single bloody-mindedly insist that the rules should ignore MAME?

The rules tell people which choices to make when adjusting the DIPs menu, even if the labels are unfortunately not an accurate reflection of the game.

To avoid ambiguity, could the title of https://www.twingalaxies.com/game/driver/pc/undercover-visit-to-the-mall-go-shopping-time/page/1?ref=fbshare be altered slightly from ending with [Time] to ending with [Time Remaining] instead, please.

I made a mistake creating the following track - I used Integer when I intended to use Floating Point. There's been no submissions (and this mistake actually blocks submissions). Could the track be changed to Floating Point, please:

Found a duplicate pair of tracks. One has a score and the other can be deleted: https://www.twingalaxies.com/game/driver/pc/?track=track%20down

Both tracks represent the same section of Driver: "Take down Granger's Boys - Track down Granger's gang".

I came across an old forum post about a speedrun for The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening by Ryan Williamson. https://www.twingalaxies.com/showthread.php/110754-Legend-of-Zelda-Link-s-Awakening-New-World-Record-!!

The time announced is 2:07:49, but in the database, Ryan has a 2:07:39. A 10 second difference. Must be a typo by Kelly Flewin.

https://www.twingalaxies.com/game/the-legend-of-zelda-links-awakening/game-boy-game-boy-color

In the forum post on page 3, post #23, Ryan says he used using save/quit on his speedrun, which isn't allowed by the current rules. Looks like the rules got changed some time after Ryan's run.

I suggest correcting the time to 2:07:49 and the rules be updated to allow the Save & Quit technique.

I am unable to attach files to my submission message, or to a reply in the thread. I need to attach my .inp to the following submission, but can't:

https://www.twingalaxies.com/showthread.php/208225

EDIT: Could this be due to file size limitations for attachments? The .zip I am trying to attach is 8.5 MB...smaller files seem to work, but not this one.

There is a typo in the ROMset name field for this track:

https://www.twingalaxies.com/game/solitary-fighter-world/mame/points-tournament-settings/

The name in the rules is "SoliFgtr", but it should be "SolFigtr".

It appears these two tracks for TM Forever: TrackMania Nations Forever / TrackMania United Forever have been created although they are for the same race: https://www.twingalaxies.com/game/tm-forever-trackmania-nations-forever-trackmania-united-forever/pc/play-solo-united-race-green-islandb2-time/page/7?ref=fbshare

When clicking the "Score Track" link, the resulting page is blank.

To replicate the issue:

1. Goto https://www.twingalaxies.com/showthread.php/208299-Atari-400-800-XL-XE-Oil-s-Well-Points-163-920-Matt-Sales

2. Click the "Score Track" link.

The leaderboards for this track display correctly when clicking the link from the Atari 8-Bit Leaderboards. https://www.twingalaxies.com/games

Thanks, Matt

A bug on saving an edit to the wiki means I've just wiped out the content of list the of tournament bugs page: https://www.twingalaxies.com/wiki_index.php?title=List-of-Known-Tournament-System-Bugs . The content is still in the source code of the page but does not display.

For Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec's PAL region the "Time Trial" section is called "Time Attack". Could these few tracks be adjusted to represent "Time Attack" instead of "Time Trial" please: https://www.twingalaxies.com/game/gran-turismo-3-a-spec/playstation-2/?track=PAL%20-%20Arcade%20Mode%20-%20Time%20Trial

There are 2 versions of Karate Champ that were released, the original and an updated version called "Player vs Player". They can easily be told apart from each other by the scenery that the fights take place in; The original had matches taking place in a dojo (at first) and then a tournament arena, like this:

The Player vs Player version takes place on various "street" locations, and the competitors start the fight much further spaced out:

Aside from these visual differences, the gameplay in a single player game of the original is endless...the game continues until you die, and the score resets (rolls over) at a million. The Player vs Player version has a definitive end, after 12 matches against "Champion" level opponents. The scores from both version should definitely not be compared against one another due to all the reasons I've listed, and the fact the CPU's AI is improved in the newer PvP version.

The issue I have with the MAME tracks here on TG is that I am 99% certain both versions have been used for older pre-TGSAP scores. Taking a look on MARP's tracks, I can find both the first and second place scores from TG's track:
https://www.twingalaxies.com/game/karate-champ-us/mame

Julio Montero's 1st place TG score is 2nd place on MARP for the original version:
http://replay.marpirc.net/r/kchamp

Tommi Tiihonen's 2nd place TG score is 3rd place on MARP for the Player vs Player version:
http://replay.marpirc.net/r/kchampvs

Is there anything that can be done at this point to correct this? They obviously should have seperate TG tracks, but how would that work? @SincerelyFranny @admin staff

ALSO:
The arcade track for Karate Champ also does not specify which version is allowed; I strongly recommend adding to the rules that only "Player vs Player" scores are allowed on the existing track. All the scores currently there are definitely possible on that board, and it would be a shame for someone to ruin the track by submitting an impossible score to reach from the original (endless) version of the game.

Thank you for your attention and looking into this!

- Pete
