Cosmos for MAME has four players, five submissions and is missing rank 3 (bottom two scores are 4 & 5): https://www.twingalaxies.com/game/cosmos/mame

Could someone do a little cleanup on the rules for Wizard of Wor on Atari 2600: it's not obvious on the rules of the scoreboard but in the submission threads there's lots of formatting coming through.

Back in the day, an Atari software pirate who called himself "Glenn the 5200 Man" converted a lot of 5200 games - both released and unreleased/prototype titles - to the home computer format. I have a near-complete list of everything he did. He was popular at the time (1983-84), as Atari would release a home version of a popular game for the 5200 first, and the computer later (or often, never). This is where Glenn came in. One such game was Space Dungeon. It was never released for the 8-bit computer, and there happens to be a score in TG's database for it for that system, from Tom Duncan:

https://www.twingalaxies.com/game/space-dungeon/atari-400-800-xl-xe

The only known version of the game for the computer is Glenn's 5200 conversion. There's currently no video online of Tom's game (he submitted it in 2005), but there's a good chance if there was, you'd see this title screen (http://home.ptd.net/~scottith15/space_dungeon_glenn.png).

I forgot a prefix on a new track. Could the following track get the "PAL - " prefix, please:

https://www.twingalaxies.com/game/kikstart-2/commodore-64/course-a-time/page/1?ref=fbshare

Course A [Time]

should be:

PAL - Course A [Time]

Thanks. :D

Steve Rasmussen just submitted a score for this specific version, so now there's 2...

https://www.twingalaxies.com/showthread.php/223781-Atari-400-800-XL-XE-Space-Dungeon-Points-105-885-Steve-Rasmussen

O'Riley's Mine is another game worth mentioning. Steve has records for both the 800 and 5200 systems:

https://www.twingalaxies.com/showthread.php/206376

https://www.twingalaxies.com/showthread.php/208663-Atari-5200-O-Riley-s-Mine-Points-5900500-Steve-Rasmussen

The game was never released for the 5200. Someone converted the 800 computer version years ago, and someone else made a custom cartridge of it. Here's an older list from 2008 of games that were converted from the 800 to the 5200: https://atariage.com/forums/topic/120084-5200-conversions/

There's probably been more conversions done since then.

With the 800 version, the game was released on both tape and disk. The original versions can be found at Atarimania: http://www.atarimania.com/game-atari-400-800-xl-xe-o-riley-s-mine_3821.html

The version that Steve used for his submission is a pirate version and there are 2 indicators of it. The first is the loading screen that briefly appears. The original versions don't have that screen. The other indicator is the high score table screen. The pirate version has several scores by "GJL" including a top score of $99,999,999.

The original versions don't have any scores in the high score table, and they don't save any high scores.

There are other pairs of systems in this predicament but I don't know if TG ever had an elegant solution to the problem - from the classic MVS vs. AES to the esoteric Amstrad CPC vs. Amstrad GX4000.

For games that were never had a commercial release on one platform, it's not going to be possible to accidentally mix scores. I don't see that there's a problem with having such a track - it fits in tracking hacks and homebrews.

Perhaps the "best" solution would be to identify such a hack within the rules of the track so there's no confusion?

The VCS/2600 section of TG's database is littered with pirate versions and hacks. Before the use of flash carts and SIO-to-PC devices, it might have been difficult to obtain a copy of an original game, especially if it was on cassette or floppy disk. And at this point, both the media and the drives (cassette and disk) to read them are around 40 years old. So I not only understand the need for newer devices, I use them myself. But it's also easier now to obtain copies of software, particularly the original versions. So there's really no excuse for not using the original versions. Between Atarimania (the largest Atari software database) and Atariage (with the most active forum for Atari users), one should be able to track down an original copy of most every game (either digital or physical).

Much like all the pirate cartridges that were released for the VCS (at a ratio of something like 8 pirate carts for every 1 original), there are multiple pirate versions of some Atari computer games. And the differences aren't always as simple as someone hacking their name onto a title screen. So if TG is going to accept pirate versions, they'll have to have a separate track for each version. It's the same problem with tracking prototype versions, which TG also does. For example, there are at least 4 different versions of VCS Xevious, with the latest being found in 2015. But of the 3 scores currently in the database, none of them used the latest version, and there's nothing in the rules stating which version should be used.

The easiest solution would be for TG to adopt a policy that only officially released games are to be tracked, otherwise this is one dog that's going to chase its tail forever.

1. Estimate how many pirate and hacks Atarti 2600 records are in Twin Galaxies scoreboard database 100's a 1,000 plus?

2. How you go through it all?

1. Not my job. I'm not involved with maintaining the database here. Feel free to offer to do it.

2. Use a site like Atarimania. Do a search and check "Original version (in white)"

http://www.atarimania.com/advanced-search-atari-2600-vcs-game-_2_G.html

If there's a game in TG's database that isn't listed as an original, the game in question is a pirate/clone.

Could someone please correct the rules for the PAL version of these? They should be the same as the NTSC rules.

Battlezone has the rules for Asteroids Deluxe and Asteroids Deluxe has the rules for Battlezone.

Thanks

Instead of "Most Points", it should read "Shuriken Dojo - Most Points". Thanks!

Hello, Ms. Franny et al. This is regarding placing order errors for a game on the Playstation 2.

Twin Galaxies

Activision Anthology, NTSC Barnstorming, game 1 diff BB (fastest time).

1. SG has a faster time than APM, but they wrongly share a 3rd place ranking, please correct APM's placing to 4th spot.

2. All other time submissions below APM will now need to get bumped down one ranking spot.

Drop me a line if you require more info on this or if it is straight forward enough to correct. Thanks!
