Several little gremlins here, the above noted, and my notifications (the number) keep popping back up.

Someone must've spilled coffee on the server, I guess...

I keep trying to deny being a member of staff but even the site wants to me to know this is my wall... apparently!

Those moderation functions at the bottom of the page are not toys.

Stay away from them, you crazy kids!

me too. including appearing to have edit control overo thers comments. i figured the funniest way to test was to edit your comment effectively proving you right. it appears i cant though. so that one function alone is an example of a display only but non functional effect of being signed as admin. i would imagine based on that the other indicators of being an admin are also display only

atari "amidar"'s rules contradict. it says use B (which for most games is easy setting but not this one) it then says "5 warriors slow speed" which would require game A not B.

https://www.twingalaxies.com/game/amidar/atari-2600-vcs

fixing this is extra tough, cause the oldest scores came from a time when atari games could be on easiest, so presumably "game A 5 warriors slow speed was correct", but all tgsap subms use game B

one way or the other the contradiction needs to be resolved, including the contradicting precedents. My suggestion is users choice. The oldest scores were likely on easier settings, so people going for lower scores is most fair to keep low. At the same time, the lower setting makes no difference after the first 3 levels, so allowing the easier setting doesnt really make any difference at all to top players and is therefore also fair to them.

tagging @kermit73 and @Garrett Holland since they both submitted high scores under the harder setting and so they should have input

I agree. Clarifying the rules to include Player's choice would be best. I've played both, and the skill level required between the two are nearly indistinguishable imho.

for now, it doesnt. When it would matter is scores under roughly 20,000 played on hard. Currently I dont believe any such scores exist, as all scores much higher were played on hard and lower likely played on easy. so right now a players choice would harm noone and not matter. however, leaving it as is, should someone get 20k or lower on hard then it will matter and we'll be in a pickle with no good solution.

its not that difficulty doesnt matter, its that difficulty doesnt matter with the current scores on the board.

If we're changing the rules, my vote is "user choice". The track is effectively a marathon, so for any record performance played on either difficulty setting, most boards will be played with 6 enemies moving at their top speed.

For any player using a patttern, you could argue that difficulty "A" is slightly harder since you have to play more boards early in the game where the pattern doesn't work optimally. The early boards take a longer to complete (perhaps 30-60 seconds longer) and the scoring potential is reduced by about 100 points per board while there are only 5 enemies (one less chicken to catch).

The net effect is playing on "A" takes perhaps 10 minutes longer to earn the same score that could be achieved playing on "B". Considering that games with 6-figure scoring take hours to complete (my scoring rate is approx. 60k per hour), I don't believe this difference warrants creating a separate track and trying to sort out where to put all existing scores. Allowing the player to choose the difficulty seems like a good solution.

The scores of Daniel Buchanan (673,890), Marc Ahles (192,200), Scott Pine (210,160) & Valerio Verrando (55,830) all appear in BOTH the Pac-Man Arcade highscore list & the Pac-Man M.a.m.e high score list. These were direct imports into TG from th m.a.m.e listings on http://cubeman.org/mame.txt & therefore need to be removed from the Arcade listings. (Screenshot from cubeman.org)

Issues with Games Followed

My intention is to follow 4 game and platform combinations (summarized below):

Game IDGamePlatform IDPlatform
3852Donkey Kong2Arcade
4027Out Run2Arcade
6648Donkey Kong (US Set 1)46M.A.M.E.
4027Out Run46M.A.M.E.

There are 2 issues to report:

Issue #1 - Invalid Link

On my profile page (under Friends => Games), the link for Out Run and M.A.M.E. is incorrect.

The current link is:

https://www.twingalaxies.com/game_detail.php?gameid=5779&platformid=46

The invalid link leads to:

https://www.twingalaxies.com/game/out-run-delete/mame/

The link should be:

https://www.twingalaxies.com/game_detail.php?gameid=4027&platformid=46

The correct link leads to:

https://www.twingalaxies.com/game/out-run/mame/

Issue #2 - Notification Errors

I received a pair of notifications yesterday for new Donkey Kong submissions (see below):

I am only following Donkey Kong under the Arcade and M.A.M.E. platforms. No disrespect to the submitter, but why am I being notified of recent DK submissions on the Intellivision console?

Hello -

Could you please update the rules for this track leaderboard so that it is consistent with what is actually displayed in the game's options page? Thanks!

Current Rules:

Game Option Menu:

Proposed Rule Changes:

- Remove "Skill Level = Medium" since there is no such option

- Replace "MEDIUM" with "NORMAL" as the Game Difficulty value

Subscription Folder Issue

Whenever I vote on a submission, I subscribe to the thread and place it in a folder named "Open Submissions" until the adjudication process is complete.

Earlier today, there were 27 submission topics in the folder. When I access the folder, I am greeted by a wealth of misinformation. According to the displayed page, I have NOT voted on ANY of the submissions, when in actuality I voted on ALL of them. The page also reports that none of the topics have generated a single reply, which is not true.

The 4 most recent submissions appear below as an example:
