The video won't play for me. Am I doing something wrong.

Do I have to do something more than click "play"?

The first 8 minutes is just the logo. The broadcast is after that.

Thank you for the great session last night @Jace Hall

It took a while for my brain to process the information, but when I woke up this morning I think I understood. (is that the meaning of the phrase 'It dawned on me' ?)

Twin Galaxies will be the Linked In of the video game world. Players reputation / credibility / GG status will be used to validate and verify their ability to play on "toxic free servers". Game publishers will subscribe to a TG service that will allow them to filter out unwanted players and behaviour, thus saving them millions of dollars on their own efforts over and over which each game they release.

This is brilliant, and I am all for it. My kids are getting old enough to be into online play and would very much like for them to have good experiences without worrying about the darker side of online game play.

Looking forward to the next State of the Galaxies.

I also want to say that State of the Galaxies puts a face to Twin Galaxies. To me, this is very important as Jace's enthusiasm is contagious. Emotion and intention can be mis-interpreted in text posts, but it is clear in these SOTG videos that we are headed in a positive direction.

With the speedrun question... First off, one should learn that it's called "speedrun" not "speed run" .

TG is already long gone in opening up its site for speedrunning. Especially since you have long disrespected the communities and the records, you refuse to update your rules from the 1980's and have generally nothing to offer. You are commonly made yourself a joke to us and there is practically nothing you can do to fix this. I've never heard anyone say that "I really wish I could submit this run to Twin Galaxies instead of SpeedRun.Com" but I have heard several that rather submit high scores to SRC.

I say it's not worth it to put money and effort into this. That ship has sailed, just saying.

I haven't watched 2 hours of video. Anyone got a synopsis.

  • alarm

Synopsis:

- Jace is back in charge

- pinball and ESI will be dealt with at a later date

--------------Datagod's version based on his old man memory------------

- Twin Galaxies will be leveraged to provide game publishers with a mechanism to verify/validate players which will allow them to host "toxicicity reduced" servers (my term).

- Twin Galaxies will become the linked in of video gamers

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Edited to reflect Jace's comments further in the chat:

- Twin Galaxies Profiles could be leveraged to provide game publishers with a mechanism to verify/validate players which will help them to create filters that support "toxicicity reduced" servers (my term).

- Twin Galaxies is working step by step to become a type of "linkedin" of video gamers

- The scoreboard is very important and is used to showcase a gamer's achievements

- Twin Galaxies is about all gaming, not just retro and arcade, not just e-sports

- the submission queue will not be manipulated, it is what it is. People need to adjudicate to make it go down

- the state of the galaxies will continue on Mixer and be an informal discussion between Jace and the community members

This all sounds great but is there a ETA on any of this? These are the types of far reaching things they seem to believe they can pull off that linger for years and years. We don't even have a simple ticketing system and they are going to become the linkedin of gaming worldwide??

You cite "TG" and "you" as if it was a singular entity under common management since the creation of the International Scoreboard in the early 80s eg. "you have long disrespected the communities and the records, you refuse to update your rules from the 1980s."

There's been three owners of TG after Walter Day stepped away; Jace Hall acquired TG in 2014; there has been community interest in making TG friendly to speedruns; unfortunately, I can't find the post, but part of this effort led to accusations from track founders on speedrun.com that TG was stealing rules without owner permission. Anyway, long story short, if there's community interest in building bridges, I say let's do it.

Watched the whole thing, some very interesting points by Jace about TG's business plans for the future. I agree that making the profile page the main focus is the way to go, surely opens up more opportunities to attract people from all areas of gaming.

Thanks for posting this Jace, and thanks for taking the time to answer all the questions. It was really informative. I'm hoping to make it to the next one.

Great post, but just wanted to provide some context around a couple of the items you listed, as it is important to understand that I was answering specific questions - so taking my answers out of the context of the questions can sometimes over/under emphasize my responses.

These statements were in response to a question regarding how TG profiles might be able to generate revenue. I was reciting some of the thinking, goals, and direction as it relates to that question. I was not trying to delineate the above as the only way a profile may generate revenue opportunity, nor that it is the absolute single direction.

I would re-phrase the above like this:

- Twin Galaxies Profiles could be leveraged to provide game publishers with a mechanism to verify/validate players which will help them to create filters that support "toxicicity reduced" servers (my term).

- Twin Galaxies is working step by step to become a type of "linkedin" of video gamers

Hope that made sense!

It sucks about Dave , hope he gets better soon. But @Jace Hall should TG have a step in commissioner during times like this, and maybe a “vice” head custodian too. Just in case you needed to step out too?
