Keeping it very simple with limited function - but its there. Let's see how it goes. :)

Will add a "Post New Thread Button" for easy posting, but for now you must use the "Thread Tools" menu drop down to do that.

@Jace Hall , I was just made aware of posts of yours promoting the #Right2Game fundraiser in the subreddit KotakuInAction, which was the "acceptable" home of the Gamergate harassment movement. Those posts were made a full YEAR after that harassment campaign had started, after many people had been harassed into hiding, swatted, doxxed, and forced out of their jobs. That was plenty of time for everyone around the gaming community to have been fully aware of what was happening.

I'm wondering if you have any comments about that situation now? Do you regret promoting your campaign to that part of the community?

I’m not sure exactly what you mean but I will try to understand. Forgive me if I misinterpret.

Your question seems to create and place an external political context here that is not consistent with my mental reality of me simply responding to one of the numerous people who were reaching out to me to ask me to answer questions.

Its important to understand that I don’t really use redit.

At the time, a number of different people/sites reached out to me asking me questions about the campaign which I was always happy to answer, since my agenda was a positive message. ❤️

That forum and any others I may have answered questions in were the ones that reached out to me. I did not reach out to any of them. Period.

Prior to being contacted I had no knowledge of the redit forum you mention at all. In fact it is entirely possible that my answers to the questions I was asked was the first time I had ever even posted on redit, and I may even have had to register at that time, but I’m not sure.

In terms of regrets, I’ve never even thought in that context as it relates to my efforts to promote a more positive societal outlook on the activity of playing video games - so I’m not sure what to tell you.

I’m pretty sure that everyone that reached out to me during that time asking for more information about the campaign I responded to indiscriminately and unilaterally as I was focused delivering on a positive message wherever there was interest. So there is nothing particularly special or different about my responding to that redit’s questions as compared to anywhere else. Trying to derive any kind of meaning or significance beyond that is looking for something that’s not actually there - but people can do what they want of course. I’ve no interest in trying to impact people’s fantastical ideas or attempts at trying to contextually politicize something that was never intended to be. But hey, more power to them!

So I can’t speak to all that other contextual stuff as I don’t participate or know much about redit forums/communities and the various politics or histories behind them.

That’s about it.

For what it’s worth, I’m sure that at some point I probably shopped at a store owned by someone of ill-repute... of course I didn’t know it at the time, but people could retroactively try to determine the political meaning of that if they wanted to as well and make it serve whatever agenda they need it to. Up to them. I’m good with it.

Thanks Jace for bringing the forums back.

Do you plan on introducing some at least basic formatting tools (buttons)? I hope so.

The forum feels a bit buried in the "more" button. Can it have it's own button up beside the "social" button? One day.

And while I'm at it...thanks for continuing to keep the shout box!

-Was not planning on it. Not really trying to go all "forum-ey" with this. Just supplying the minimal basics.

-Yes this is intentional. Forum is there for those that really wanted one, but we are not trying to center-stage it at this time.

And while I'm at it...thanks for continuing to keep the shout box!

-You are welcome!

Sound like GibGirl is talkign to Cat. "I was just made aware about something you said years ago blah blah blah"

OMG

If outrage culture comes to Twin Galaxies I'm gonna get banned for sure. Keep this baloney where it belongs. And stop listening to undead trolls.

Who knows. It's fine though. I dont do anything that I am ashamed of and I certainly will admit to any action I have ever taken. Nothing to hide here.

I think it was just an honest question which I was happy to answer.

No worries or issues.

I've been struggling a bit with how to take and respond to this. I do believe you when you say you had no intention of making any sort of political statement with those comments. It's hard to judge how much you may have been out of touch with the events in the gaming community versus me being hyper-aware due to it all taking place around me from the start,

So maybe it was just unfortunate circumstances that led you to trying to promote your positive message in one of the homes of people who were actively making gaming a much more negative place at the time - and has led to a chasm in the community that I believe has only gotten worse, though admittedly less actively hurtful. (though some recent events have me afraid that may change) I can say from the discussion I saw where I learned about this post that it pained TG in a bad light.

I guess I need to spend more time thinking about this and figuring out how I feel.

GibGirl, are you innocent of past posts? I have seen a racially charged post with reference to crack use. People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

People do NOT need to apologize for things said on the internet years ago. Fact.

If you have to seriously examine your feelings about somebody answering somebody else's question years ago, then may I suggest you simply relax, play some video games and have fun.

Take part in the general forums. Share knowledge. Show off your skills. Help others achieve their best. Did you know that creating things brings joy? I create continuously. I create programs, I create art through my photography. This increases my happiness. Give it a try.

I hope that made sense.

The posts above with exception of jace’s initial post and Lexmark’s questions, are examples of why I was all for not bring back the forums. Get rid of the wall too.

I’m glad the forum link is hidden in the sub menu. Hopefully I forget about it or at least from checking it. And hopefully new users never find it. So they don’t get turned off to TG when some of the forums threads turn toxic.

I bet you have a VCR in your house with electrical tape covering the blinking time.

I don’t think anyone was throwing stones. GibGirl was just asking a question about an area of sensitivity in order to get a better understanding. Nothing wrong with that and I think it’s great that there were questions asked instead of final assumptions made.

Unfortunate that there may have been some negative energy out there being placed around a genuinely positive effort.

It is what it is.

Please just let GibGirl process and have whatever thoughts and opinions that naturally come.

No need to be dismissive or elevate a discomfort accidentally.

No issue here. Let’s move on.

12 pieces of tape or 12 VCRs?? I was of course making a very subtle joke about DataGod giving GibGirl ethic lessons when it comes to forum chats and keeping things on the level about facts when he himself likes to troll quite a bit sometimes but doesn't realize it. Just need to know the facts so I know which joke is the most appropriate :)

Lots of really mature stuff in them old forum posts. Lets re-open that slow bleeding wound again. Things where just starting to become pine-sol fresh around here too. I can already feel the toxic levels rising.

Oh, I realize it. I try to dial it back now, but sometimes I forget.

Thanks for being antisocial!

There's always a threat of toxicity I suppose, but Wall posts and Score Review threads have proven fertile grounds as well. I think there's been a culture change over the last several months, I'm confident that General forums can be used in a constructive way - there may be disagreements, but I think they can be kept respectful.

yeah i wouldnt want to throw out the baby with the bath water either. The same tools that can be "toxic" can also be productive. I'm a big believer in if you let all ideas aired, then we can keep the good and discard the bad. the only real exception to that is clutter, since too much clutter truly can hide the good ideas and make us have all the bad with none of the good.

hint: as forums have reason to be locked, and as clutter is the real killer, i might suggest limiting ability to create new forum threads hint hint
