I believe we're talking about high scores here, so the goal is to get the highest score, regardless of play technique. I've heard and seen every scenario of how good people are at Tron. All the braggarts are usually in the 2 mil range and point press.

All joking and smack talking aside, 2mil and higher is a great score. But point pressing will never get you in elite score range. I really don't waste my time arguing this anymore, because pedestrian tron players can't grasp the concept that a high score can be achieved by running boards as apposed to point pressing. It's very simple math. The time you waste point pressing the grid bugs does not net as many points as amount of boards you can clear during that same time period.

i did open the door to play technique. i was explaining why a possible high tron score was deemed impossible and not done. it had to do with, the techniques of the time couldnt yield that score, and so even though later techniques were used it was still doubted the original player used that.

granted thats only one big part of the puzzle, such a high score when there was no competition, its strange to think anyone would stand on the machine for so many hours and blow away the competition by so much and not have any proof to show for it.

so in particular, i'm saying the old techniques dont get the listed tron score

Both of you know absolutely nothing, and are just embarrassing yourselves. I am the only Tron player to exceed 900,000 in one hour of gameplay. The game I submitted for the MAME record was merely a practice game, as I tested my 'buttons only' method of playing. Boasting that you could beat that score is just pathetic. Any decent expert could, especially with a dial.

Incidentally, when it comes to quick IO exits, I am also the best at that. It is certainly the easiest way to play, and yields almost as good a scoring rate. But not quite. You neophytes really should learn about a game, what has been shown to be the best way of playing it, before running your clueless mouths. I can tell that both of you don't like being schooled. Nevertheless, this is your lesson.

Dude you suck. I'll stick with my 8+ million score, while you flap your gums about your 900k score to the bottom feeders.

also, i'm gonna pay dread a sincre compliment -- however it contradicts the point hes making. he does know patterns for speed on light cycles pretty darn well. so any speed he has comes from that, running boards quicker, NOT from point pressing spiders.

Unless I am mistaken, you're saying that certain people's idea of what could be done on the game is the reason that the Tron score was thrown out. What I am telling you is that those people didn't know a damned thing about the game. You can repeat that hearsay all you want, but it would be better to say that the score was thrown out due to lack of evidence.

By the way, if you can't make at least 10 million playing Tron, you suck. Don't bother calling yourself "elite".

ok close. yes i'm saying thats what people said. careful though cause one of the people pushing for removal was cruz himself. also if scores wer thrown out for lack of evidence you'd have to throw out the whole older scorebaord. lack of evidence wasnt the reason. the reason was people didnt believe it due to how they did things at the time. now sure since the score is possible they could be all wrong, but that was the reason

oh and i never called myself elite. and fyi you cant make 10 million either, so i think its odd you'd hold that as the bar considering you're the onbragging about your skills and i'm merely giving a history lesson

For your information, I made 10 million on an acrade machine, in the '80s, before MAME even existed. You should try to get out of the habit of claiming knowledge which you do not possess.

As we all know, Twin Galaxies' history is about as bogus as it gets. I'm actually surprised to see you give it any credence whatsoever.

its not so much i give it credence, if you wrent so quick to argue just the opposite. i have very little respect for how scores were both removed and added, however to properly criticize that history its important to bash it on facts and not just emotion

While we're on the subject of TG history, how about releasing that highly significant historical record, Mr Hall? You know the one I'm talking about. I have a hammer and nail, right here, ready for the Mullet Muppet's coffin. Just release the footage, and we can go about putting the biggest piece of fake gaming history to rest.
