TWIN GALAXIES
04-30-2021 at 12:15 PM

Just a small note to let the community know that we have been working on creating the ability for members to use aliases for their participation on the site.

To be clear, in order to be VERIFIED and submit, adjudicate and participate in various Twin Galaxies site functions, Twin Galaxies must still have/retain your full legal name for its private records - however, we are implementing the option for that information to be known and limited only to Twin Galaxies itself, if that is the TG Members desire.

Currently, when things are submitted, a member's full name is attached to the submission. We have received many requests from people for the ability to hide that information, and in fact there are competitors who do not participate due to this feature. Therefore we are working on adding a user option to hide real names.

We are attempting to make the feature work RETROACTIVELY. Affecting all previous submissions and posts for a user. Which adds to the complexity of the implementation. We will keep the community posted on progress.

Once we complete this, we will finally be able to begin work on multiplayer submissions, supporting 2,4,6,etc. player team submissions.

So those are the next big items that are on the way!

P.S - Also we got "clickable images in Wall Feed" working - so now you can just click them and see the larger image without having to click the full post. Feel free to try it!

Thank you for your patience and participation here at TG!

Finally people will stop deadnaming me.

There are many reasons someone may not want their name displayed and surely it is up to the USER to decide this for themselves. TG seem to have just made a decision for everyone - I don't think that is right. I would not have joined up under a condition that my real name is used. If I can't register a record then fair enough, but I don't want my name shown and can't seem to turn it off. Do have to delete my account to achieve this?

Those USERS are more than welcome to submit anywhere they want.

This is a site with real people, not kept kids and pseudonyms, these are real high scores...

@Rogerpoco at first i took the issue with this comment cause i misread it as him telling TG how to run things, but he has a point. I believe hes talking about his name here in this post. When he (and we) signed up, we signed up and agreed our names would show up on scores, but we were also led to believe our handle would be used in posts like this. The current work in progress rescinds that

Fire_Power, if you scroll up youll see i asked about the name change here, and though jace didnt use the word "bug" its more of side effect of this being a work in progress. you should be able to not just remove your name from these posts, but further have your handle itself be used instead of scores as well.

as for deleting your account, no, also when accounts were made part of the tos was saying you understood the scores couldnt be removed just by requesting. fortunately, this should be a moot point as the goal is to allow you to conceal your name and this is just a temporary effect

FYI i'm seeing passionate opinions from people i care about like roger and garrett.

guys, i intend to use this and hope i dont lose your love. I can know i have first place in the world without knowing other peoples real names, i just need to know their real scores. And they dont need to know my real name to know that someone in the world beat them.

when i first joined in my mind i was seeing each game as its own score, i thought i could use a different name for each and i was gonna use a pets name as a middle name for each of my scores (I envisioned going for far fewer scores then).

You better believe if i can honor them with their name on the scoreboard I'm changin my name to Thor Toledo Hunter. I dont need my name up, i know what i did. I really dont even need my scores up, but i figure its only fair if i wanna know what other people did then they should know what i did. its only fair to let pepole know if htey really are the best or not by submitting. but for the recognition i could far more joy out of memorializing thier names somewhere that people wiil see.

Naw, man. Not only do I understand that POV, it's a POV I expect most will have. This isn't an issue that I would be even willing to debate about at any length because I care so little about it, much less so try to convince others to adopt my POV on on it, whereas other issues (like 'Trust me, bro' type crap) Im willing to fight like hell over. I just figured I'd lend a dissenting voice of the minority on this issue.

My alias and real name are both me. If "Thegamer1185" is telling you to **** off, I damn well guarantee Kyle Nelson is telling you the same thing, haha.

TG is giving people the option, so users choice is fair to me in that regard. However, I do want the real names showing up on the leaderboards. To keep existing cheaters out, and to keep future cheaters out as well. If someone cheats, then changes their real name to submit here again, well they are dedicated to their craft I guess.

It's already proved itself as a bit silly.
For example, "Roger Edwin Blair the 3'rd" posted, but Rogerpoco liked the next comment.
I think TG should have given the option of changing,
NOT changing things, then giving the option to change things back. That's how a corrupt government operates.
Some won't bother. So changes are made. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

It is unfortunate a very few, maybe the number can be counted by vinger, do not want to display their real name.

(sorry typo, I mean do not)

The problem is, if TG allow hidden or unreal alias and not names listed against World Records (number 1 positions at leat or top 3), then what credibility we now have on who got the real WR.

TG is LINKED to. Esport! So alias player X was drafted...?? I do not think this will go off well in media nor sponsors.

Same with NBA players, they are real, with real names are listed with a ranking. Get drafted by real sponsors knowing who you are!

For TG to be able to build upon history and make new connections, if we know who we are, who you are.

I do not support that Top10 on credibilitylist per platform be anonymous.

So for example: If Andrew Mee the Top Mame player I want to see it. Such also others that do not know who are the names behind aliases connecting to a person, human being.

Even myself becuase I am from another country, non-USA based , there are lots of id aliases I do not know allthough I do play arcade games since 1980 but was not part of the inner circles of a selected few.

Similarly a lot of new members here at TG wants to read up on the history of TG and who is who, that can only be possible to tranfer that history with real people with real names with real places (NO ALIAS HERE TOO)... with visible achievements not hiding in the dark

Apology, typos above due to one vinger mobile typing...in short. I mean: Small amount of users do not want to display their real name..

I think you guys are missing the point. I don't think the point is for people to be anonymous, I think the point is that google searches on a person's name don't bring up every dumb forum or wall conversation they ever took part in.

Hi Evener

For us that wants to do research on past games, this is a huge beneficial getting mechanism to get information, search by name of a person and subject matter getting tid bits of tips shared by a person in forums not available otherwise. Also, the authenticy of the research lies exactly therein, who said what in past forums posts. Same with scholarly research as you will know.

Example: Lets take mspacman

If it were not for non anonymousy of Tom Asaki, not hiding behind a false name or alias, a huge piece of history of this game would have not have been known or confirmed..

Similar with other games: robotron, donkey kong, gamers that allow them to be known share knowledge about the game and history about the game.

Such other game experts have to follow the same path, to be known by name, to preserve history of gaming and create new history going forward.

No one worthwhile read about is an alias, even the most known feared pirate with a nickname Blackbeard, real name "Edward Teach"
