The Counter-Strike: Global Offensive ELEAGUE Major: Boston ended in dramatic fashion yesterday with the broadcast of its Grand Final breaking a Twitch record that they themselves had set a year before.

Counter Strike: Global Offensive has been a staple of the esports world for years and yesterday marked a momentous achievement for the community. During the ELEAGUE Major: Boston Grand Final, that saw North American favorite Cloud9 defeat European powerhouse FaZe Clan 2-1 in a best of three series, over 1,130,000 concurrent viewers tuned in to watch what many are calling the best CSGO Major final ever.

The prospect of Cloud9 becoming the very first North American team to ever win a Major and the star power that FaZe Clan brings with it to every game were major contributing factors to the record breaking broadcast. ELEAGUE has established themselves as one of the best tournament organizers in the world of esports and thier high production value helps to draw in new and old viewers alike, which always helps towards breaking a major viewership record for the second year in a row.

Everyone in the world of esports was glued to their screens to witness history in the making and the two competing teams did not disappoint, as players from both teams gave us highlight play after highlight play to gasp over. This was especially true for Cloud9’s Tyler “Skadoodle” Latham whose exceptional AWP play could not be contained by FaZe.

Critics of CSGO do their best to claim that the First-Person Shooter is a “dead game” and is losing viewers to titles like League of Legends, DOTA 2 and Overwatch, but with the last two ELEAGUE Majors breaking Twitch’s viewership record this notion could not be any farther from the truth. 2017 was one of the best years ever for CSGO viewership and if the ELEAGUE Major: Boston Grand Final is any indication of what is to come 2018 will be an even better year for Valve’s legendary First-Person Shooter.

Cloud9 winning the Major sent the viewership of the Grand Final skyrocketing.

The passionate fanbase of CSGO will make sure that their favorite esport continues to be at the top of the industry. Meahwhile, where one story of success draws the love of the fans, another draws ire, as Virtus.pro seems to be making plays to change up one of the longest-running CSGO rosters around.
